Garage Band! (No, not teh mac program)

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Sir Cameron, Sep 4, 2007.

So my band just recently recorded our first demo (campy applause) and I was wondering if anyone else out there was/is in a band of their own, or at the least plays something. We're all artsy so I'm assuming there's gotta be a few.

I am not. (I know, why am I posting in this thread, right?) My town has a big ska scene, though, and I've played roadie for a few friends who have bands of their own.

Really, I love to sing, and I would love to be in a band. But I can't play anything, and there aren't really any local bands that suit my style.

Well, see, that's the thing. I can't really pin it down. I mean, I would like to do something harder but still melodic. Kind of like Deftones, I guess. But I also like a little blues and a little jazz. With, like, a Fiona Apple twist. Haha, I don't think anything like that exists.

At any rate, though, it would have to be a very versatile band.

Edit: Oh, I had meant to ask, does your band have a MySpace or anything? What kind of music is it?

heh you've struck a chord with me my friend. I've always been interested to play that kind of stuff. Hard, but melodic with a wierd jazz twist.

    my band's website is myspace.com/underwho

It's our first recording, so nothing grand

I used to be in a band. But it kinda died when I moved away, and other people went to uni. Shame really, we weren't half bad, even if we didn't actually get around to recording anything...

Guitar. Rhythm, mostly, though I can do lead. It's just less fun.

I've also started learning drums recently, which is great for stress relief :p

Been in a few bands actually. In a bit of a project at the moment as opposed to a band(considering theres only two of us). I play drums traditionally but I write the lyrics and the rhythm parts(whatever they may be). My current project is called Children of Steel (myspace.com/childrenofsteel - mind the shoddy shoddy recording). Heavily thrash influenced, Im doing my steady best to introduce a more progressive/melodic feel to the music. It's not going down to well at the moment though. But Ill get there.

Before this while C.O.S was on a break I did Smiling and Bleeding (myspace.com/smilingandbleeding) which is a punk influenced thing.

Right now Im writing a percussion ensemble piece. Thats fair sweet. Three kits and a full percussion set(conga's, bongo's, snare, xylophone, chimes, cymbals, all that jazz). So yeah, I do a bit of music.

Cameron - you guys have a myspace?

I'm in a band. I love it. We have practice twice a week. We're currently working on recording our first song.

Funky. Very funky. Bass is the second coolest instrument. After banjo :p Coz those things just rock.

A friend of mine has this love song on his new album, and it has a kazoo solo. Most awesome thing to ever fill my ears.

I haven't played in a band, but my instrument is tenor saxophone. I love to go off by myself and blow some improv blues. Really haven't touched it in quite a while though.

If I were in a band, I'd probably be a vocalist. I have a decent vocal range, a good sense of pitch, and I project well; I can cover a good sized room without a microphone.

You'd be crazy not to make use of a mic though. They even out the mix of a band so well, they have the potential to make it 1000x better.

Great use of harsh and clean vocal harmonies, that was awesome in that second song. Music is decent I guess, nothing ground breaking. Good lyrics. Very Haste The Day. Good overall. I like it. If you put an album out I'd probably buy it.

Who ever said I wasn't crazy?

I use a microphone most of the time in a Karaoke bar, but often have to crank down the amp. I really do have a strong singing voice, especially if I'm rocking a song like Roadhouse Blues - there's just no way to sing that at a low volume!

Thanks frost! Yea most the kids in my band are Haste the day fanatics, so we tend to follow them a lot unfortunetely. Thanks for the input though, I appreciate it a lot.

Plus, none of us have been playing over 3 years lol
