Hi guys, My name is Deanne, but call me Dee, I'm 12 years of age and am an aspiring author. Writing is more so a passion than a hobby, and I can't wait to get to know all of you! =D Dee.xx
Hello Deanne, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Excellent. We now have 3 members i don't want to count myself since the voices in my head would be upset as to not get counted. So, do you like to write about horror and post apocalyptic worlds? Or is it just me?
Rofl. xD Haha, its just you. I think my Mum would throw a fit and my teacher would throw my book out the window if I presented them with a story about zombies and horror. I don't really know what I prefere to write. I'm still sort of figuring out what style suits me best. I'm about three-quarters through a romantic vampire 'novel'-nothing like twilight, belive me. And I've finished a realistic story about a girl playing football. Two totally different genres, and I'm not sure which I like to write best.
That's just because you haven't wrote about zombies yet. Do it on the down low. You can get it past unnoticed.
Hmm, that may be true but I'd prefere not to start another story right now. And plus I was deadly serious about my teacher throwing my book out the window.
Lol! I guess you are still young and don't have the freedom of speech. Or do you? I don't learn much about Australia. So i don't know most of the politics or rules/laws.
Within my own family, I have plently of freedom of speech. But school is school, my parents are the best, but they push me to strive to be my best and to make the most out of my life. I see where they're coming from but sometimes, 'speshly with writing they go a bit too far. About the laws of australia, well honestly they bore me to death. Basicly all I know is that you can't do anything to anger the government or police. And more importantly your parents, otherwise its a while in jail or perhapes half an hour in the naughty corner. But I've grown up with hearing how Australias the 'lucky country'. So yeah, I guess we have quite a bit of free speech etc.
Everyone overlooks Australia. Its the perfect society. It wasn't in either of the world wars. Even Africa is higher on status charts. Maybe even Antarctica. Yes i would like to live there. Seems quiet. You should tell your parents that if they work you hard to create things. Then it doesn't become fun, only a chore. If they don't lissen to that then have them come on this forum and ask why all of us succeed. It's because we love to do what we do. Even when things tell us otherwise. But you won't see anyone who has parents breathing down there neck. At least, you will be hard pressed to find any. But if you do, that gives you a chance to ask them how they overcame it.
Ha, you may think that be wait til you visit. Everything you say is true but I doubt you've heard about our outrageous wether? You've probebly heard a little about Black Saturday? Well on those days tempretures soared to about 45 degrees celcious, and a few weeks later I remember it raining! If you visit oz, especily melbourne, thinking about moving here, the wether mostly turns people away. Very true, I'll remember that next time they push me to do something.
You know, ever person in every town says. "Wait until you see the weather"... And its true! Utah is bad too. We have snowing up to 6 inches one day then a sunny 80*F. I'm surprised i haven't died of the sudden changes. I have also been outside when it was sunny. Then it started hailing. HAILING! I mean it was still sunny but i was outside in my tshirt and getting hailed on! Luckily it wasn't rain so i didn't get soaked that quickly.
Hail. xD We don't get a lot of hail in Melbourne. Its more rain so heavy your front yard turns into a small pond, or sun so hot you choke on the hot air.
I thought global warming was saposed to kick in. I was looking forward to that. I'm still freezing over here.
Oh trust me, it does. It just depends, really. Some summers it'll be high 40s, others it'll be as low as 15 degrees celcious. Melbourne wether is usally unpredictable.
It is predictable. Just remember to bring your coat next time you go to the beach. The unpredictable would be if it stayed one temperature throughout the week.
