Yeah... ummm.. ow. LOL. I primarily do HIIT workouts, 6 days a week, then yoga, toning, etc. on top of those. About 2 hrs a day, 6 days a week.

ROFL! They ARE scary. No, but it feels like I am :p

HIIT routines are great though, seriously. I mean, for the first week or so you puke almost every time (I know... ewww) but they build up your stamina incredibly fast. It's unbelievable how fast you find yourself doing WAY more than you thought you could. I LOVE it. It's addictive :D Gotta have the protein drinks though, or you'll NEVER make it....

I saw the adverts for those insanity workouts. To be honest, I thought they were just a gimmick like all those other television Ads, but they must actually work :D

Oh, it works! In the first 3 weeks I lost 6 inches off my waist alone. (I had a little.. errr... chunk :p) Now I want my defined abs like Mal's. No doubt I should have them soon!

Sitting at just over 4 pounds on the weight loss front... slowly creeping my way towards my goal of 30lbs. Don't get me wrong, I feel great eating better and exercising, plan to keep it up, but of course it's natural to wish I could see 30 pounds gone overnight LOL

And no matter how much or how little you have to lose (or how fast it comes off) it's NEVER fast enough :( How long have you been at it?

SO TRUE! I've only been at it about two weeks, so I guess 2 lbs a week isn't bad at all. But I'll take it while I can, because I always tend to hit a plateau once I reach the 10-15 pound mark - I always get stuck around there for some reason, not sure why...

Yeah, I used to too. That's why I decided to try HIIT as well as the other stuff. Blasted right through that mark :D Of course 2 hours a day is downright painful sometimes!

Yeah so far I've just been watching my calories, eating a bit more protein and less pasta, drinking more water, and getting on the elliptical twice a day (once in the morning before work for 25 minutes, and then another 25 minutes after work). 2 hours a day though? DANG, I definitely couldn't keep up with that! I was thinking about trying P90X but I'd heard that's really exhausting, too.

My sister and her fiance are really into P90x, and my brother and his wife used to do it, too. They all really like it, but yeah, they said it was killer. Sometimes I want to try it, but the rest of the time I'm far too intimidated.

I went to a circuit class with a bunch of girls from derby last night. It was pretty intense...I had to stop at one point because I almost threw up--first time that's ever happened to me during a workout, and I didn't dig it.

What I do is worse than P90X, at least when I compare it to a girl I know who does P90X (I'm not saying P90x is easy though, don't get me wrong!). No weights in mine, you use your own body weight, it's much more like insanity than anything.

Throwing up sucks, but it's only until your body gets used to it ;)

The weird thing with almost throwing up was that it's not like the workout was more intense than what I'm used to with derby and just working out in general...I think maybe it was because I was jumping around a bunch. And the room was really, really hot.

LOL no, but that's usually the first thing people ask me whenever anything is wrong with me. My body just hates me--sometimes I think it's trying to self-destruct.

I know exactly what you mean. (And isn't it annoying when people ask you that everytime you don't feel good? I have to admit it was fun to be the one asking for once ;) )

I would invest in P90X if I had the moniez. I have a friend who owns it, but I'm afraid to ask him because I'm afraid that he'll think to himself, "LOL, bitch is fat, bitch is fat."

And besides, in a month's time, I will literally have a gym (free student access 18 hours / day) in my backyard. And most people will walk through the gym to get to the complex from the academic buildings... So I have no excuses. ;)

My family, all three of them, mentioned independently that I look like I've lost quite a bit of weight and that I look pretty slim. Hmm?? I am at the same weight I'm always at (a high end of normal; losing 7-12 pounds would be really great). Actually I'm at the same weight I was at when I started college last year. Still, it felt nice to hear, especially since I've been eating like crap lately. ...Maybe I should get sick more often? Hahah. ;)

I need to weigh in here. P90X is not a good way to go. It's whole premise is to essentially shock the body into loosing weight. That's fine - I mean, it works, people regularly loose weight very quickly on the whole program. It isn't, however healthy.

If you want to loose weight, start with your diet. The average person eats way, way too much carbohydrates. You should ideally eat 100-120 grams of carbohydrate to maintain your current weight, and you should derive these carbohydrate from starchy vegetables, fruit and other things like that. You should not under any circumstance (if trying to loose weight) eat grains, breads, anything with HFCS in it or that's generally high in sugar. Essentially, don't eat refined sugar or grain (even whole grain). They mess with your blood sugar and insulin levels, which in turn mess with the bodies ability to loose weight.

In place of that, depending on your goals, eat high fat for weight loss and high protein for muscle gain. I know high fat does not sound like it would assist in weight loss, but go with me on this one. If you want to read up about the debunking of the lipid hypothesis, there's plenty on the internet.

Once you have your diet sorted out, then go into exercising. Don't go for work outs that exhaust you. You don't want to chase fatigue. Go for short, intense strength and cardio sessions, not too many times a week. These are ideal for weight loss - they hold the same initial body shock factor, but they are more sustainable in the long term.

I don't know if anyone has given this kind of non-professional, vague fitness advice in the past (if they have, I'm really sorry, I just couldn't be bothered trawling through the whole thread), but I thought I would say it anyway :)

(PS: HIIT is good, I saw people talking about it. But only in short sessions. No one should ever throw up while working out - that is the body's way of telling you that you are over a threshold and you are doing damage to yourself, not getting fitter.)

Have to disagree. P90X, Insanity, any HIIT routine for that matter, could essentially be claimed to be "shocking" your body into losing weight. It's called getting off your ass and doing something and depending on how often you've done that, yeah, your body can be shocked. Nobody said nutrition wasn't important. I don't think anyone at all said that. In fact, I work out 2 hours a day, 6 days a week (including a 15-35 min HIIT routine each of those days) and I eat more than I ever have. Because I'm starving by the time I'm done. I eat things that are healthy, but seriously, I eat like a pig. And I'm still losing weight and inches and toning up.

Throwing up while working out is probably much more common than you think for people who push themselves and haven't done it in awhile. You adjust quickly and it stops. If I quit because OMG- I puked! over a little HIIT routine I'd still be 30 pounds heavier. People should do what they are able to do and maintain and, certainly, have a doctor weigh in if there are any health problems to be taken into consideration. Also, have you ever done a HIIT routine? A real one? Even people who are fit often puke the first few times. They're probably the most shocking to your system yet you say they're good, lol. And they are (not disagreeing, just find it funny), studies have shown that pretty clearly. So has my butt ;)

And I have to question what you know about P90X. How is it shocking your body exactly? It's a work out program (a milder one than Insanity because there are no HIIT's). You can maintain it pretty easily (get the video out) and I believe they even give nutritional help (plans/suggestions) as part of the deal, but I'm not 100% on that.

I think you may have misinterpreted my tone. I'm not trying to have andognat you! Sorry if it came out like that.

In regards to the use if the term shocking, I don't mean it in the sense the word usually conveys. More like the way work outs like HIIT and P90X work as a whole; the idea of making muscles do things they aren't used to doing. I realise I'm not explaining myself well, this is my first study break for 5 hours :( if working out 6 times a week for two hours at a time works for you, that's cool. I personally would urge some caution to be taken - it's that kind of marathon work out that isn't sustainable, not due to drive or passion (which are qualities you clearly possess) but more because our bodies can't always handle the strain and burn out may result. Happens to the best of em (including elite athletes. On the point of elite athletes, especially body builders, some of tue greatest did no more than 40-60 minute work outs(.

Throwing up regularly, or striving to achieve that when you work out is not what anyone should aim to do. Like I said, it's a biological response that says you are doing more harm than good. That's not to say if you do, quit - there are a lot of factors that may make someone spew during/after a workout. I used to play a lot of pretty competitive soccer (so yes I have been through HIIT routines) and spewed a couple of times through that (mostly from the heat). Ive spewed twice since I've been exercising more or less independently (which I have been doing for nearly two years). I am fit and strong, although not particularly big or ripped - mostly because of the style of workout I do. The reason I say HIIT is better than P90X is simply because there is more evidence showing it works (that I have read). P90X is a bit of a fad in my opinion.

I will admit I'm not an expert and I certainly have never purchased any affiliated products. From what I've seen, I didn't like it, that's all. I say it isn't healthy because it doesn't work to develop any key areas of all round fitness (from my point of view) as opposed to HIIT. But like I said, this is just my opinion. I've done my research and this all works for me. I didnt mean to come off quite that blunt. Sorry.
