Gnarly & Ink (I'm new here, but not a new writer)

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Gnarly, May 16, 2012.

My story, like so many other twenty-somethings seems pretty obvious. It either goes one of two ways. The first way is, you work really hard in high school to get into a good school for what you love doing. You spend your time doing your work in college, you move past the first two years with flying colors, get your Associates, and next thing you know, 2 more years are over and you've got your Bachelors. Luckily, the fucked up economy surpasses your lucky little ass, and you somehow land your dream job in just under your 4th year. You graduate, and you're well on your way to your brilliant career, as a (insert your amazing career here).

    OR....

You struggle. Just like I did. You also got great grades in high school and you go to Suffolk University for Creative Writing but all that created was a huge financial hole, that you still are living at the bottom of. Then like every other college dropout/financial failure/regular dumbass/or free spirit you gave Massasoit Community College a whirl. Unfortunately, after working full time, school full time, and still scraping by trying to keep up with all life's finances, you realize you don't have any time to actually write. College had been basically stripping you of the very things you were so passionate about. That brings us to today. Now you write whenever you want, trying to finish your first novel... when you're not stricken with writer's block,(and working at your bullshit job which makes you sometimes hate the human population) and you write in your measly little blog (wish we could call it something other than a 'blog') that at least you get a kick out of every once in a while. Wish things worked out in a different way, but hey they didn't, and now you've got a lot of free time on your hands to do what you love.

Pretty sure my passion will be the death of my prosperity, but isn't that what all good creatives thought?
    Here's hoping . . .

    Welcome to Writing Forums, Gnarly!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirments. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.

Thank you so much GoldenGhost for your support. It's only first day on here, and I never knew this site even existed. What a sign!! I seriously had been struggling writing my novel and it's great now to have the support from other writer's who are as passionate as I am!! And you are right, the journey is what it's all about. Sometimes I do get stuck or confused but you know...gotta keep going and keep searching....

"And if you get confused, listen to the music play." (franklins tower) Right? Diggin' your picture.

Quite right, and if you let the music play you, all sound falls into place. Or at least, that is how I feel about life. Anyway, Franklin's Tower is one of my favorite GD tunes and Hunter was definitely right on the money with the line you quoted.

I feel you, for sure. Struggle is part of the human experience. No one is without it, completely. But who says it cannot be beautiful? Struggle creates experience and experience becomes growth. I'd rather "plant ice and harvest winds" than have a life free of the cold.
