Hello everybody, I just found this forum through google and immediately felt at home. An active community full of nice, helpful people obsessed with writing? That's just too good to pass up. First of all I'd like to introduce myself. Just like the topic's title indicates I'm German so if my English appears a little sub-par from time to time(or you notice excessive commas) that may be the reason. Furthermore I am only 17 years old so let me apologize in advance for any responses that might appear juvenile to you. What brings me here is my love for the English language. In the last 2 years or so I started watching more and more American and British television, mostly because I couldn't wait for our TV-networks to broadcast new episodes of my favourite shows and of course, as I soon found out, nothing beats original synchronisation. Soon I started reading and listening more and more English and as I learned to understand your language better, a whole new world unfolded before me. Aside from being able to read or watch a whole lot of books and movies in their original form( which really is a whole different experience) a lot of song texts suddenly made sense The greatest thing about speaking English is surely the ability to communicate with people all over the world through the Internet and being able to meet exiting new personalities, which brings me back to you. So what do I actually want to achieve here? I plan on contributing as much as I can through posting my opinion on topics that spark my interest and of course I'm also interested in receiving some feedback on my on stories, if I decide to post something worth reading. Woah, this sure turned out a bit longer than i expected it to be but there you go. That's basically my "story" so far. So hello again, it's a pleasure meeting you all.
Guten Tag Noval, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Please read How to Use the Review Room before you post there. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out the RPG forum for improvisational fiction. Also try our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Hallo Noval, willkommen im Forum. (HONESTY DISCLOSURE: I only took one year of German Language in school, so basically I can say my name, count to ten and I know a few words of profanity. Usually I cheat by using the google.com language translation tools)
Hi, Noval, and welcome! I won't say anything in German because I took one year of high school German and that was enough to convince me that I only embarrass myself when I'm not speaking English. (Often I embarrass myself when I am speaking English, but I've learned to live with that.)
Hello there! As I sadly tell someone at least once a month because so many opportunities to not know German show up, I was one of 2 people who signed up for the German class in my school, and so they cancelled it. I'd love to be able to say something to you, but alas I only have the 1 language, since I sucked so bad at French and Spanish I don't remember any of it.
Hallo! i do know some German (I'm on my second year of it in school.) But I prefer to type in English Welcome to the forum and enjoy it here.
Guten Abend! Honestly, I took four years of German and that's about the extent of what i remember... I need a refresher course -_-
