Greetings to you Scribes! My name is Tommie, but most call me Tom, and I bring you propitious greetings from the beautiful Empire State! I joined this forum on the whims of my adherence for writing! I simply Googled "Writing Forums" and this was one of the first results, so that's what lead me here. Here's a little about me: I'm a teenager, born in Sumter, SC, now residing in Orange County, NY with my mother, step-father, brother and my dog and cat. My mom is an Insurance Agent and my step-father's an entrepreneur. He's the CEO and Owner of a Rubbish Removal Company. My brother's 23-years-old and is a Cable Tech. I really enjoy swimming, being on the computer, writing, reading and volunteering. One day, I plan to be a world renowned English Teacher, Graphic Designer and a business owner. Among other interests, I also enjoy a great debate, intense sports game, and a really funny movie and some music. I speak Italian, German and Spanish fluently, which makes me a bit more advanced than others. When I write, I like to open up a word processor, and just start typing. Or some times, get a tablet, and just start writing. I like to write/type short stories. Most of the time, they're narrative, descriptive, persuasive or expository. I can never write decent poems, but practice makes perfect. My favorite authors are JK Rowling, Mary E. Pearson, Stephanie Myers, Karen Hesse, Lois Lowry; just to name a few. My favorite books are Number the Stars, Adoration of Jenna Fox, Letters from Rifka, the Harry Potter Series, Twilight Series and the Bible; just to name a few. I really like Time Magazine, Ebony, JET; just to name a few. I have no favorite movies, but when I watch them, I like them to be funny or scary. Something like Madea Goes to Jail, or something of the like is ideal. Tyler Perry is one of my favorite actors, as is the Wayan's Brothers! I like all music genres, sports, and I adore traveling! In fact, I'm going away in a few days. I'm a foodie! I love everything Italian, Soul, Japanese, and mmm, everything else. If you'd like to know anything else, I'm a very open minded person! I hope to read some of your works, and I hope to receive criticism for mine!
Hello Tom, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Hello Cogito, nice meeting you. I appreciate the helpful links and the other content of your welcoming post! See you around.
