Coincidently, I'm a professional software developer, and currently an amateur writer I wouldn't let java dull your interest in software design. Much of the work you'd do for a company like bioware would - i think - be C++ based. While java is a great language to learn OO design, and to practice design patterns, C++ and its memory management bring a whole new depth to it. You can actually be rather creative! Anyway, welcome from a fellow newbie
