Hi, everybody. I am giuocob, a high school junior (not sure what the median age around here is). The small writing forum I used to frequent has gone down the toilet, so I'm coming here. Most of the emphasis here seems to be on short stories and poetry...I'm more of a novelist, so I probably won't be all that active in posting stuff. I will, though, try to add to the reviewing community.
what kind of novels do you write? Romance? Sci-fi? Fantasy? also are you working on any thing know? and hello and welcome
My favorite is the science-fiction type. I only just started writing this sort of thing, having just broken away from writing fanfiction (yeah, I know...) I recently aborted a short-lived attempt at a Douglas-Adams-ish novel (I'll probably post the prologue, which is all I actually wrote) and am now doing prewriting for a Tremors-ish novel (not a fanfiction, just the same general idea of the film).
Hello Giuocob, Welcome to the Writing Forums. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well! As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
just a question for cognito. have you ever tried introducing someone with an actual message? instead of the pre-written generic hello.
Welcome to the site, giuocob! If you write novels then I'm sure you'll fit in perfectly fine. Just to defend if he doesn't get back to this thread ... As a moderator it's his job to make sure new members feel comfortable when they join the site. The information in his welcome message is extremely useful and will set anyone confused on the right track. And besides, on many occasions he adds personalised tidbits.
Don't worry about focus. We just have alot more poetry and short stories. You're novels will get plenty of attention. I review almos tnothing but the novel forum unless requested by someone to check a short story. No worrier Oh yeah, BEWARE OF MY HATS!
Psst - it's C-o-g-i-t-o. I always post the Introduction I've built over the past year, because it contains information to help newcomers get started. Often I add a bit at the beginning, if something in the new joiner's post inspires me to do so, and if I have the time to do so. I usually have more to say when I have had a chance to get to know someone.
You will enjoy the forum. Your writing Novels will be an asset, plus you"ll have fun here also. Quills
