Used to write a lot, don't anymore, but I still love to read. Admittedly I first came to this site only for constructive criticism on a speech I've been working on, but I noticed the "post at least two reviews first" rule which makes perfect sense, and now I'm kinda addicted to reading all of the short stories here, hehe I probably won't really post anywhere other than the Review Room that often, hope you guys don't mind! I'm usually more of a lurker on most forums, though, so even this is a lot for me XD
Hey Bundt Cake. I'm TheHedgehog, but call me Hedge. Good to have you. What do you like to write and read? Any hobbies or interests? What do you listen to, mostly? Anyways, welcome. (note: I DO expect an answer to my questions )
Hello Bundt Cake, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here anyway. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Nice to meet you, Hedge. Uhm, I enjoy reading comedy and horror, mixtures of the two are also awesome (recently finished reading John Dies at the End, it was amazing ). I mostly write comedy, sometimes I write more serious things but whatever I write ouside of comedy ends up being really depressing with everyone dying at the end. Music? Mostly bitpop and other various electronica, I guess, or whatever's on the radio at the moment.
Hi bundt cake! Pleasure to meet your acquaintance. I was a big fan of speech writing in high school. If you're any good at humor I'll bet you have a real edge on your competition! Out of sheer curiosity may I ask the topic of your speech?
hi bundt, welcome to the forums one upside to the forum-you get help and get the chance to help others one downside to the forum-it's addictive hope to see you around
@Chesca: Hello! And yeah, once I noticed that my teachers marked my humorous speeches better than my informative speeches, I switched over. XD My speech this year is about how to worship a volcano god. I have it posted in the non-fiction section now, not sure if it goes there but I wasn't sure where to put it. @fantasy girl: Hehe, the whole internet is fairly addictive. My interest in writing has been waning for a while, so I'm hoping this site can revitalize that a bit. @Dalouise: Hello to you too
