Hi. I'm new. As in just joined and don't know what I'm doing but anyway...I seem to have the opposite problem. I have so many ideas for my story in my head that I don't seem to have enough hours in the day to type them all out! I know how I would like my story to go and have about 60 pages written so far, but I get bored easy and can't seem to make myself sit down and write more.
Hello Dark Maiden, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Welcome DarkMaiden! Being on here will give you a lot of motivation to put your story out on paper. I'm a lot like you in the sense that I have all kinds of ideas in my head but never actually write them down, but once I joined this site, that changed. Hopefully the same will for you! Enjoy!
Thanx. I hope that it will. I've been on other sites recently and read other people's fan-fiction stories and really hope to read some of the ones on here. Reading other peoples stories helps inspire me to sit and focus on my story and especially on my characters. I am writing a fantasy but find it harder to make good relationships between my characters than it is to create my world.
I write fantasy as well. I hope to read your story when it's finished. Contact me anytime; I'm always free to talk.
Cool. I had hoped to finish my book The Broken Rose by the end of summer but I'm not even half way through. It gets me kind of frustrated. But oh well. It's the longest book I've been able to make myself write. Hey just a question-but what do you do when the adventure-action type story you try to write sort of turns into a forbidden romance?
Welcome to the site I seem to have a lot of those problems too... I get lots of ideas in my head but can never make myself just sit and write.
