    Hello guys! Beware, long intro.

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by morphghost, Mar 15, 2013.

Here's my introduction story. I'm 17, going to be 18 in a week, and over the years I thought of my childhood as deprived. Never seen much Disney movies. Only read textbooks and higher level fiction books. But then I decided as I got older to become more open to other works of fiction. Like in middle school I became interested in the Alex Rider series. A story about a British teenager leading a double life as an MI-6 spy. Stuff like that. My dad wanted me to read old military themed books, based on true stories. So during high school I read mainly school issued novels like Romeo & Juliet, Great Expectations. I never even finished them. Heck, with Romeo & Juliet I never even picked it up, out of my ignorance of love.

I finally caught a glimpse of my talent to write in 10th grade when I was assigned to write journal entries for my English class. So I started making short stories based on my experiences in the journal. Also, a friend and I decided to start writing a superhero adventure story, a teenager named Len Buman (a play on of his name, Ben Luman) who becomes the guardian of his galaxy and has to confront different threats. But then I got into trouble when the principal decides my works suggested violence and I was suspended for 3 weeks (long story that will be detailed in the High School Chronicles trilogy.

Beginning of 2012, I made a goal of reading as many books as I can. So I started on a time travel series called TimeRiders. Just saying for as long as I can remember I've been obsessed with the concept of Time Travel and the thousands of scenarios that come with it. Anyways, well I finally got into the Harry Potter series, despite my dad's disapproval. With me concluding the series, and with the Marvel movies on the rise, I decided to start reading comic books. Not just any, but those written by Stan Lee himself. That's when I eventually made a big decision...I want to write comic books.

With the introduction of my character Len Buman, I was also working on another superhero, based on my time in JROTC. Eventually he became Morph Ghost. I've been working on this and eventually created a group of heroes with individual stories that would eventually turn into something like The Avengers.

But...my dad believes that my maturity is regressing. I believe I found my talent.

Well sorry for the long intro, I just wanted to share the fact that my dad disapproves of me reading and writing comic books, which he thinks is for little kids.

("...well, you can't live your life for someone else, moreover, there is fast going to be more comic book readers than normal book readers, might as well learn your trade for an early age if that is your leaning..." mentioned the goblin approvingly, adding "...me, I write for forumland, so we share a common misconception where most of those humans think it's silly and regressive because they all think that that bookworld is for real writers, just forumland is for nobodies then, but then I have to point out to them that only 3% of the population read books anyway, young people least of all, whereas far more of them are on forumland now, so you stick to your comics, btw I read naruto every week and I imagine that I am older than your father now...", whereupon the goblin tapped his toe on the red welcoming carpet turning it green to make it even more welcoming to the mind's eye)

    Welcome to Writing Forums, morphghost!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirements. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills. The requirements of the Writing Workshop don't apply to the contests, so new members are allowed (nay, encouraged!) to get stuck in and enter!

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.
