So, I saw this somewhere and thought it was pretty neat. You have to complete the phrase "Hello my name is. . . " from your main character's perspective and a sentence or two about him/her. I'll start. Hello, my name is Lisa Rubin and like many teenage girls I have boyfriend issues, but mine has gills and cerulean eyes. . . yes, I'm very open-minded. Just make sure it's not a paragraph. I think this helps pick out the most important traits that define your main character. . .

I was right there with Bick, until Cogito said "main character." I thought MC was like a rapper or something... MC FRESH YO-Ditty... couldn't figure it out. Main Character. I still don't understand the exercise though. How can you stay in the framework of a character in one sentence, especially when no one has any prior knowledge of the character?
It's just supposed to be a very short introduction. What is the one thing your character would convey when introducing himsef/herself. What is the one trait that shines through when someone meets them? Hope that was clear.
Think of times you have met someone, and you have gotten a strong first impression of what they were about after the first couple sentences.
