Hi there, I've always hated introducing myself on new forums because I've introduced myself so many times, I've become a tad repetitive, at least to me. Anyway, I'm an average 16 year old girl who's interested in reading and writing, and I've been doing it from the very first moment I could. (I'd give you an exact age but I can't remember) Just to get this out of the way before I go on, I hate it when I go on writing forums and am treated like a baby because of my age. I've been on writing forums before to see that everyone would talk to me like I was a baby instead of a grown up, sixteen year old girl. I want people to be ruthless in their reviews in my work and I don't want things to be sugar-coated. I don't think its possible to improve if people sugarcoat things for you. Just to let you know. Now that's out of the way, we can get into the real introducing. For me, I'm really like writing fantasy, murder mysteries, mysteries and angst, which I'm surprisingly interested in. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an emo or anything but for some reason I'm interested in writing sad moments in stories. I've dabbled in Fanfiction for a while now but since the sudden amount of homework, I haven't been updating for a while now. I've been writing fanfiction for a while now and I decided to leave it for a bit and concentrate on my original fiction. So then I began to go onto different writing sites and different writing forums and just post my work and give other people critiques. I just recently stumbled onto this forum and decided to give it a go, so that's why I'm here. I don't really know what else to say so I'll stop here. Hope to see a lot of you soon!
Hello Lady L, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Please read How to Use the Review Room before you post there. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out the RPG forum for improvisational fiction. Also try our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Hi, thanks for all the welcoming. Nice of you all to acknowledge my existence in the forum Just wanted to point out to Cogito that it wasn't really a priority of mine posting straight away but if this came out of my rambling of an introduction, sorry. Also, publishing is a long road and I have no real aim of which idea I'm going to go with. I was just thinking of improving the way I write and not my real story but once again, if that came out, sorry and thanks for the reminder. Once again, thank you all and hope to become active on the forums soon.
that was one of the great moderators "template posts" don't take it personally, everyone get's it. and the information in them is extremely useful, so they're worth the read.
