Hey there! I joined the writing forum awhile back for my significant other but this is my first time actually using it, I'm excited and nervous. I'd really enjoy hearing from anybody who has common writing interests! I'm from Oregon, have a love for fantasy reading/writing, my fav. authors are Tamora Pierce, Phillip Pullman, and Robert Jordan. Hope to hear from some of you! Oh, and also taking suggestions on a good thread to look into for a 'beginner' to get involved in. Lily

Hello Lily, Welcome to the Writing Forums. The Lounge is a good place to start, to get to know people. Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Thank you all for getting back to me! Doug, I have noticed several fantasy fans so far and I'm looking forward to getting into things. I have to say I love your doggy avatar, so cute! Anir, do you have any favorite Tamora Pierce books? I love all of her stories so well but I definitely gravitate toward the first series. I just finished reading her latest and it was hard to put down, a very pleasant surprise. Robert Jordan is known for the Wheel of Time series (a Tolkein like fantasy world with forces of light and darkness, as well as other magical elements). Thank you for the guidlines, Cogito.
I loved the Alanna series (is that the right name?) and her Circle of Magic series is definitely high on my favorite list. Robert Jordan, huh? I'll have to check his work out some time.
