Like everyone here, I love to write. I love to read even more. Reading is freedom and writing is magic as far as I am concerned. I have done a few small pieces, but I am starting something that is important to me. Even if it never sees the light of day as a published work, It is something that I need to put down on paper. It will be a while before I post anything. I want to learn from what you guys are doing. I will provide feedback, but be warned it is the feed back of a computer programmer . I look forward to getting to know everyone better and I assure you that I am just a nice guy who likes to write.
Says the creepy stalker guy. Welcome to the site, though, even if you are a stalker. You definitely have the right attitude.
Thanks Kas! I am looking at the site rules and suggestions by the admins now. Looks like this site is exactly what I was looking for!!
Hello Shadow, Welcome to the Writing Forums. English is preferred, although I am fluent in C++, C#, Java, and many others. Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Ahh then we can have some very good discussions . I don't know where the stalker thing came from. I don't stalk I slither .
Hey Shadow. I'm Hedge or Greg -- whichever you prefer. I'm from South Carolina, so it's cool to see another from the Carolinas. :] What do you prefer to write in terms of a genre, and what do you prefer to read? Anyways, enjoy your path to literary enlightenment, and I look forward to your work. As long as you don't touch my Nilla wafers, I think we'll get along fine. :3
Hi Hedgehog. Another southerner . Everyone should be glad that they are reading my words and not listening to them. I have been told I have a very country accent. I love to read horror and sci-fi. I like to have a book going all the time and I find myself reading these types more often than not. However, I am a big history buff so I will read some non-fiction also. The things that I have tried to write generally fall into either horror suspense or action adventure think the Bourne Identity. How about you?
