    Hello!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Myopic Chihuahua, Nov 7, 2007.

I have always loved writing and love being creative and for as long as I can remember I have wanted to write a novel. I have started that journey and really want to view other people's work and have my viewed. Thank you for taking the time to read my stuff and I will also take the time to read and comment on yours!

Hello Justina, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room on this site, therefore, is a true workshop, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Thank you all for the response! I have been roaming around in the various rooms. It is really fun to read other's writings and to have mine read. I felt like I was stuck until I joined some forums and now I feel inspired!

    - Suzanne, I really haven't written that much (mostly poetry) but I am working on a novel (fantasy) for young adults. If you have time to read it, it is called: Chapter 1 - The Painting... and Chapter 2 - Shadows. Thank you!

I like it much, much better than another forum that I was a part of. When you post your stuff here people actually read it and comment. The other place, nobody was reading (at least not much). Thanks!

Is the whole forum locked or does it just appear that way because I'm not a member?

I have no idea I don't stray there these days. But I'm very serious when I warn anyone reading this: those people are rude for no reason, so do your best to stay away.

I wholeheartedly agree with that statement. I found that site first and was SO excited. Mainly because I wanted a place I could go to (where people didn't know me) and find others that were passionate about writing. I wanted to be able to read other's work and have my work read and really picked a part. So, I started posting there and got some okay responses, but it just wasn't enough... and nobody really seemed to care that much. So, I started searching further and found this site. At first I wasn't sure how I felt about the posting rules (post 2 before you can post anything yourself) but very quickly I saw the great value in this. This site is just awesome and it definitely promotes a level of seriousness in writing and reviewing. That is what I like!

Thank you! Is your novel in the novel critique section? I think I saw something in there by you. I will read it today :)

Yes, and I have gotten some great ideas on how to make it more captivating. Using the right language is everything, and I was really struggling with the narrative! I am revising it, along with chapter two. I have noticed you had posted too. I also have not had a chance to read it yet, but I will!
