Hi! I'm Abstract, and I'm 16 years old. I've been writing since I was 14, and I love it. Except for the few writer's block moments that are just really, really, annoying. I'm kind of shy about my work because I think that most of the stuff I write is really horrible, but I love getting advice and comments from other people on my work. So if I post something, don't be afraid to hack it up into pieces. That's what I'm here for. =)
I share the same feeling about sharing my work with other people. After posting a few pieces and getting really great feedback from everyone here, that feeling had sort just vanished. Everyone is really nice here, and they honestly tell you what they think about your piece. Welcome!
Hi Aurica! (Nice name by the way!) It's not so much that I'm shy about posting my work, it's more that I'm not used to actual criticism and I don't want to feel horrible afterwards. I also haven't exactly been writing that long so that doesn't help.
Thanks. I've been writing since I was maybe 12, so two years. I've have never shown ANYONE, outside of teachers for stupid papers, what I've written and then kept the story going. Besides, if that criticism does make you feel really horrible afterwards, in my opinion, that person didn't do a great job of reviewing then. At least, that's what I think.
We've been writing the same amount of time, cool. I've showed a few close friends my work, and teachers if we need to write a short story for them or something of the sort, but that's it.
I've had people ask to see my writing, but I would always say no. I think this year, would actually be the year the my English teacher would see my "true" writing. I've always toned it down a bit years and years before, back when I hated my English teachers.
My writing capability is much more advanced than the lame and cheesy short stories my teachers have seen me write. My teacher this year is pretty cool though. He got me into writing poetry.
Hello Abstract, Welcome to the Writing Forums. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well! As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Welcome, Abstract! Don't be shy about your work. Sometimes, sharing it on a forum like this will unlock a goldmine for you. By the way, you're the second person besides myself to compliment Aurica's username. See you round the place, Bluemouth
Bluemouth, no offense meant, but yours was...odd. It was nice, but I've never had anyone say my username nor my real name was appealing.
O......k. You seem to be caught up with the word 'appealing'. I just like the name (didn't know it was your real name at the time). It's the sort of thing where you meet a guy called Evan and think: he has a pretty cool name. Nothing weird meant by it. I better stop complimenting usernames.
No,no,no. That's not what I meant! YOU'RE the one who called it appealing and it's not my real name. You know what, just forget it. *sigh* I don't take compliments well.
This is the place to go to get your stuff ripped apart, the critiquing is fantastic, look forward to seeing your works soon.
Thanks for the welcoming everyone! I'll post something up probably tomorrow if I still have limbs after weight testing D: It's getting late-ish and I should be going to bed. But long live insomniacs? Ahaha.
hello and welcome to the forum (sorry to be so bland with my welcome but 4 days of no sleep has hurt my head)
