My car wouldn't start this morning. Then I was mean to a call center agent from FedEx (which I never am). My day wasn't bad at all but it was jacked out of it's regular routine just enough to make me come home and start to write. It's been a long time since I've really written and it felt good. It's been a gnawing inside me that I have, unfortunately, managed to pay little attention to for ... about 10 years. When I started writing tonight I realized how much I had forgotten from my schooling. Knowing there are many people out there with the same passion I Googled "writing forums" and this was one of the top ones listed. I read a little bit and liked it. I made an account and now that I've had a chance to read further I'm very glad I did. There are so many intelligent, helpful people it seems and the topics are very useful. I think I will enjoy this. I've read the FAQ's but I've really never been part of a Forum before (I had to look up what sticky posts were...not sure if that's odd or not...) so any navigational nuggets would be appreciated. Oh, I'm Jo
Welcome to Writing Forums, Jo! I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing. This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work. However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirments. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing. Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills. If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself and Cogito) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here. Banzai
Welcome, Jo! I hope you like it here. By the way, I didn't know what a sticky post was before I joined the Writing Forums, either.
Welcome, Jo! I'm new here as well so we'll be learning alongside each other. What genre do you generally enjoy reading/writing?
I'm a sucker for reading Historical Romances. A few of my favourite authors have little series' where it's all members of a family, or their friends or in-laws. I find once I start I have to read them all. I've read two of the series' probably about 5 times and they have quite a few books. I also like mystery/thriller although it's been a while. My favourite to write would have to be mystery with a little paranormal thrown in. I love a good ghost story!! Vamps and witches are right up there too and that's what I mostly wrote when I was younger. I'm trying to teach myself how to write a good romance too. I love to read it but when I go to write it I just never think it works out very well What's yours?
Ha! Thanks! I have every Disney (except Snow White...I never liked that one) memorized front-to-back. In fact, this weekend I'm planning a Disney movie marathon with a few friends of mine.
That's awesome!! I have to re-collect everything now for DVD because my ancient VHS player finally kicked the bucket and that's the only format I have any of them on. I stopped watching Disney for a bit when it seemed everything coming out was either CGI or that almost stylized sort of drawing. I love the classic animation and I never cared for Snow White either Can't watch Bambi either because it makes me cry. What's you favorite?
My favorite? Oh, jeeze. That's like choosing between kids. Well. I've never had kids...okay. It's like choosing between puppies. Of course, you've gotta love the classics: Mulan, The Lion King (1 and 2 are pretty dang good, but I didn't much like 1 1/2), Hunchback of Notre Dam, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin...I'm probably forgetting some. Meh. Sleeping Beauty is okay but not up to par with the others. For the two newbies, I wasn't too impressed with Princess and the Frog--but Tangeled was amazing! Then there's that new TV series, Once Upon A Time...when that show first started, I almost died. It is so good! How about you?
Loving Once Upon a Time!! Sleeping Beauty I only really liked because Prince Phillip is my favorite of all the princes My favourite is probably Beauty and the Beast and the Little Mermaid. I love Disney because the stories are so classic and sometimes it reminds me to simplify my own story ideas. Instead of having twist after twist sometimes a good love story with a decent obstacle is all you really need
Welcome to the forums Miss Jo. I'm sure you'll learn plenty of forum lingo pretty quickly, but all this Disney talk make me want to mention one type of forum user, and that is... the Troll.
Fair enough Jared LOL I did think about that. You'll notice in my last post I tried to bring in writing..a bit Don't really have it all down yet, but I now know I can have personal conversations with people by adding them as a friend. BUT..this was my first post and I liked finding people instantly who had things in common with me other than writing. I forgot that this was a public post So what do you like to write? What brought you to this forum?
