    Help me choose a female name (for character in book)

    Discussion in 'Character Development' started by alex202, Jun 7, 2008.

    Hi I'm writing a book and I would like peoples opinion on which name to assign to this character.

    The character in this book is:
    * female
    * very friendly
    * a bit shy
    * funny
    * a bit *cluless* at times (but in a funny and cute way)
    * is always happy and smiling
    * is very comforting at sad times.
    * she is very pretty
    * has browny-orange hair
    * is in her 20's.

    I went on google to find a picture that closely reflects on the appearance of the character in the book and these are the closest that match the description:

    I would like for people to choose the TOP 5 names from the list below (in order from best to worse) that they think best suits this character.

    Alyssa
    Angela
    Ashlee
    Bianca
    Claire
    Crystal
    Diana
    Holly
    Ivy
    Jasmin
    Jennifer
    Jess
    Kate
    Mindy
    Samantha
    Skye
    Sophia
    Sophie
    Yvonne

    PS: If you think you have a better name (that's not on the list feel free to mention it.

    Thanks for your help.

    I think Samantha works well and it also gives you the option of shortening it to Sam.

    how can anyone really say what will be best, when we don't know when and where this story is set, or anything about this girl's background, social level, ethnic origin, et al.?

    Alex, were you named by committee?

    You brought the character into the world. You should name her, and preferably before she is fully grown.

    Real people don't "look like" their names. That's only in the mind of the person looking at her, and relating to characteristics of other people in the observer's experience.
