I have an image of what I want her to look and be like in my mind: Female, 18, 5'6", thin, ruler shape, olive skin, a bit longer than shoulder-length dark brown curly hair, dark green eyes. Wears dark pants, boots caked in mud from walking in the streets, green jacket with lots of pockets and a hood, leather cuffs covered in shells on each wrist, and carries a hunting knife on her belt. She is an independent, observer who watches a situation from a distance before engaging. Prefers to stand on the edges of a room, against walls and in corners, able to see all exits. She always looks as if she is always ready to run. She has a quiet sort of intelligence and is really good at fixing things, ingenious. Will protect herself and those she loves before anybody else, she won't sacrifice herself or loved ones to save a stranger. She prefers to stay out of conflict unless she is personally invested in it for some reason. She is also of the peasant class in an almost medieval seeming fantasy land in a Mediterranean climate. She ends up joining a rebellion against the oppressive rule over the citizens. Any help or suggestions anybody can provide me will help greatly! Thank you all in advance!
Maybe a Greek-style first name with an unusual last name or nickname? Or maybe she's only known by the nickname. Alley Cat, for example.
How about this for an injection. (Med puns are fun.) http://monsaventinus.wikia.com/wiki/Ancient_Greek_Female_Names_(Greek_Community) Call me in 24-48 hrs if the underlying symptoms persist. Hope this site will help you a smidgen or so, otherwise you are in dire need of something more proactive in terms of treatment.
The name "Cassandra" showed up whilst reading your description. However, perhaps you'll want a name that has the meaning of something "wild" and "independent" Here are five names that sound about right for her: 1. Artemis 2. Enchantress 3. Ezra 4. Valhalla 5. Yukon
Her real name could be Allie or Ali. As for an unusual Greek last name, it could be Kathros, the origin of the name Katherine. Allie Kathros -> Allie Kath -> Alley Kat -> Alley Cat.
Isn't Ezra a male name? It's extremely rare for a female name, I'd imagine... But my brain automatically suggested a femininization of the name in the form of Ezrais... Which isn't a real name, but it sure is interesting, isn't it? I might use it for one of my dragons.
Based on the title of your post I feel compelled to say: 'Susan?' But, don't use Susan, that's an awful name for a protagonist
Not sure if you've already picked out a name, but thought I would contribute! 1. Rukia 2. Olivia 3. Jade (because she is 'jaded' ....) 4. Victoria 5. Rubina
Just pick something at random that fits the setting. Only have meaningful names if you have an in-story reason for them.
There's a website with ancient Mediterranean names at http://www.peiraeuspubliclibrary.com/names/europa.html that may give some inspiration...
