Hello everyone, I am posting this in hopes of getting some help from you guys in regards to an ongoing long-form storytelling project I am working on. The story is of an human who is maturing into a hybrid alien This story will be told using twitter, instagram, facebook, soundcloud and youtube to creating an all immersive experience for the audience. The ground work for the project has been laid out years in advance and we are to a point now where some help from someone with to help launch this project into a whole new level. The project is tentatively called TourSeason: it would be a video series loosely based around touring dj's and performers. The actual main story is going to be based around Devan who changes from a human into an alien being complete with schizophrenia, paranoia, visual and auditory hallucinations that all result in his downward spiral into insanity. Basically the kayfabe change from a face to a heel through a series of deformation, digital distortion to emphasize and animate his drastic mood swings and overall change documented on tape. As this is happening the entities like CSP, the WhiteLight, and even local law enforcement get involved and try to contain as much as possible. As a base of the character Devan is growing and learning more about his culture which results in physical and psychological changes. "Entries" would be music videos, vlog updates, musical releases, and instagram and twitter Posts. There is a deeper story line that can be developed and I have a lot of the imagery and look down. I was just hoping to get someone's creative input and possible direction on the series and even specific "entries" if available.
Do you mind clearing a few things up for me? I'm struggling to understand how this formatting will work. For instance, how do the music videos link to his changes? Is he making music videos about himself? Is he supposed to be posting about his story on Twitter? My confusion aside, it sounds quite interesting. It seems like it's taking a bit of a Blair Witch Project approach with the videos and such. How will all these posts and videos get linked together?
Sounds intriguing! I at one point originally tried to make my first big book (which wasn't even a book until five years later) into the same type of immersive media format. We used storyboard images, accompanied by soundtracks and voice actors to try and tell the story in a more immersive way without a film budget, but sadly due to the lack of budget and the lack of man power, I was forced to turn the whole thing into a novel series. But!, I wouldn't disregard the format as a great way to convey your story. I know Marble Hornets was started roughly the same way using video, so I really look forward to seeing how it comes out! You sound like you have a great foundation started, so I'm not sure what all I can offer in terms of plot development. My only advice would probably be just make sure not to lose people with any abstract story telling in the process of trying to capture the insanity. Make sure the start of the story is clear and understood, maybe even try to build up a good connection with your audience personally, then gradually push down on the accelerator and open it up to the audience. Unless you're a fan of abstract telling, and that is the style you're looking for. Shoot me a link once you get started. I'd love to see it! ~ T.S.
