    Helping Readers Find Your Novel?

Discussion in 'Marketing' started by Gottagocit, Dec 14, 2014.

After you've gotten your first publishing contract and your novel is on its way to print what's the best ways to get readers to become aware of it and purchase it?

I realize the traditional publisher will do press releases and other mailers to help. They'll also help arrange signings and other events but what have been shown to be the best things the author can do to help get exposure? They also have ideas on how to sale but I wonder what those here think works well?

Is it critical to be active in social media? A Twitter account for the book title for example?
    Anyone still do bookmarks?
Visiting local bookstores to help encourage interest?
How about bookstores at airports? How do you get into those?
    Advertise in this site? Others?

    What else?

    Thanks,
    Chris

John Green, the author of The Fault in Our Stars, used his own Youtube channel to promote his book. I would imagine he did the same on his other social media.
