Hi everyone! Well, I'm new here; I joined yesterday. I've been perusing the site; I've commented on a few pieces of writing and I've put something of my own up already. But, I guess that's not introducing myself, is it? Anyway, I'm not going to say too much about myself, but I'll say something. I'm a college student, just finishing my first year. Currently, I'm a magazine journalism major, but I'm hoping to add an English major and a political science major to that. (No, I'm not necessarily an overachiever; I just have trouble making decisions.) I joined this site mainly to get my writing critiqued. My writing is very rough. I have never really gotten any of my creative writing critiqued and I'm still trying to find my voice as a writer, so this is a critical time for me to get feedback on what I post. (Not that I'm going to post very much of my own stuff. I write with bouts of inspiration that sometimes come quite often, and sometimes won't come for weeks.) But, I'm not only here for critique of my own writing. I have been considering going into the editing side of writing as a career because of how much I enjoy editing other people's work - not only the grammar aspects, but every other aspect of editing as well. So, I will definitely be critiquing other's work as well. I really just wrote this to say hi to everyone. So, hi! -Jamie (xxtake_controlxx)
Hello James, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should still not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Welome and you will love the site and the people you meet. Good luck and may your writing dreams come true.
Hello, hello! Hi, everyone! While I'm not new to this site, I haven't been active on it for almost two years so I figured I'd re-introduce myself and pretend as if I'm new. Anyway. Just some basic information about me. My name is Jamie and I'm a college student majoring in magazine journalism and English (quite a fair share of writing). I write on and off, but I'm going to try to keep up with writing because, well, it's fun. I'm also working on a thesis project that involves writing Ophelia's diary that, when the time comes, I am hoping to get some feedback on (because thus far it's crappy). But I also really like editing and all of that good stuff, so when I have time, I'm definitely going to give my feedback on other people's stuff. =) That really didn't say anything of interest. At all. Moral of the story: I just popped in to say hi and make an attempt to re-introduce myself!
Hi and I guest well come back. I'm fairly new to this forum. Good writing Ophelia's diary, I'm sure it fine. We're all down at on our self, I say we all might be the harsh criticism on our work. I know I am, I'm too scary to show anybody but I know that I will have to take that leap someday. So I look forward in seeing Ophelia's diary.
