Hey, nice to meet you all. I'm Tara and I'm an artist... sort of. I draw, write and play music. I'm here because I like to write (obviously) and because I'd like to improve my writing skills. I've written fantasy, I'm currently writing a horror/thriller story and I've got at least one romance and one science fiction story planned. If I get to finish my horror/thriller it will be the first novel length story I ever finished. So far the useless info about my writing skills (or the lack thereof). I've read the rules, so I guess I'm just gonna take part in the conversations on this forum.
Welcome! Good job reading the rules first. How many words are you into your first draft, and what % done do you feel you are with writing the draft?
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone I've finished the first draft (the main story line and events; about 11000 words, my draft is crap though) and I've written everything that could possibly be relevant about the characters. I'm currently working on chapter 2 of my first edit. I'm aiming for 60,000 words at the end of the first edit. I want to be at 80,000-10,0000 words at the end of the final edit. People have told me it's not the right way to work on a story, but it works for me so I guess I'll stick to working this way.
Wow. When I saw the numbers going up I assumed it was a typo. Interesting. Well, I guess you'll see if it works for you soon enough. Good luck!
Welcome! Also, holy crap! How did you manage to do that? I get bored after writing 500 words. Why is it that every writer in this forum is more productive than me?
Don't worry. I'm not a productive writer at all. Anyway, welcome to the forum, Tara, and good luck with your novel!
Write a lot of short stories first. Work on a story you really want to finish and kinda just force yourself to continue if you get bored, because you probably don't get to finish a (novel length) story if you give up just because you're bored. Heh. After a lot of short stories I figured it was about time to write a novel length story and trying won't really harm anyone. And thanks
Hi tara, nice to meet you! I've also found that forcing the writing out, or rather I should say sitting yourself down to forcibly write and get over writers block, finish that last chapter, just put any kind of words more that several paragraphs onto the screen seems to be the best way to get momentum flowing. Through cheesy short story or novel.
