I've been writing since...forever, I think. My parents told me that when I was two I would fill up pages and pages of lined notebooks with scribbles because I didn't know how to write yet. I've also always thought about being a writer, even in second grade, I thought it would be the best thing ever...and now I proven it to myself, I hate going a day without writing something. One day, about two years ago, I had a friend over and I really just wanted to write a story, something fictional. So both of us got a spiral notebook and went under my deck, we probably sat there for an hour trying to think of what to write. Then I sort of thought of a few sentences and wrote those down. Then my friend went home and I forgot about the story for a few months. After those few months I found my story again and came up with a plot and I wrote. Over that year, I had gotten the farthest I have ever gotten with a story. But then writers block found me and I left it alone for a bit. Soon after, I took my story and rewrote it, making it three times longer than before. But got stuck again. I didn't like the plot. Then, I wrote it again, only I wrote the short, short version, deciding that I would add in everything later. I finished that, but then I realized that it was just really an outline. Now, I'm actually writing the story. But in writing this, I have found that I needed a lot of help. I tried my mother, she did help, but I needed a little more. Now I have found writingforums.org and I'm pretty confident that I will be able to get a ton of help from you guys. I'm so exited to finaly be able to talk to people about this without them thinking I'm crazy. Thanks guys, -Alex
Hello Alex, Welcome to the Writing Forums. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well! As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
