Hi, My name is Laura and I am a sixteen year old high school student from Australia. I have a passion for reading and literature and hope to pursue it at University. I also enjoy Drama and Music, and play piano, flute and sing as well as act in plays and musicals in my area. I mostly write short stories, occasionally poetry and would love to read any comments or suggestions for the short story I have posted on the "Short Story - General Fiction". Thanks, Laura
Laura, first of all, Hello. I've always wanted to go to Australia. A friend of mine is visiting her family there as I type. Also anybody with musical talents wins my respects. Second, I think Cogito will probably zip in later to remind you to do at least a few reviews before posting up your own work. Just to be fair. Lastly, hope to see you around.
Hello Laura, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not generally be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. It's also worthwhile to take some time to look around and get the lay of the land and get a feeling for ways in which we differe from other sites you may be familiar with. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Hi, Laura. You sound like a multi-talented person. I took piano lessons for six years and couldn't even get the knack of that. Now I can barely remember where middle C is. Lol. Welcome to the site.
Wow lots of talent there, i'd love to be able to do a lot of the things that you can do! Welcome to the forums and I hope that you do enjoy your stay here. Just a friendly reminder though to review the work of others if you expect your own to be reviewed
