    Hi everybody!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by danibee, Jul 18, 2008.

    Hello!

I just wanted to take a second to tell everyone a little bit about myself. First off I am a young writer, about to be a senior in high school. I have been writing for a long time but just learned to control my thoughts and create better pieces. Right now I am at UMASS-Amherst taking classes in Creative Writing, Journalism and Children's Literature. Creative Writing is definitely my "calling." I love to sit down with a pen and paper and let my hand flow, writing whatever comes to mind. I joined this forum in order to get my work out to the public. I am usually very shy about my work but my creative writing class as allowed me to shed that fear and share my writing. I would love to have the chance for people to read my work and tell me what they think. I will be posting most of my work on my blog http://peacelovedaisies.blogspot.com, please stop by and take a look. I just started it so it is a work in progress. I would love to hear anything you have to say, good and bad. Anyway, I am excited to be here and hope you enjoy my work!

    Thanks,
    Danielle

Hello Danielle, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Most members here won't follow offsite links to members' writing, and in fact anything submitted for site contests or reviews must be posted directly.

Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Hello Danielle, and welcome to Wf.org. I am Heather and can usually be found on ehre daily, so if you would ever like a review of your work, need any help or just want to chat, send a PM my way or leave me a message and I'll see what I can do.

I hope that you enjoy it around here and we see more of you,
    Heather
