Hello! I'm travel_pillow [or at least that's the nickname i've given myself for forums XD]. I'm seventeen years old, turning eighteen in two weeks. I've recently finished sixth form college and am now going into full-time employment but this means that I also have a lot more time on my hands without having to worry about school work and so lots more time to write! I really enjoy writing, especially when I get the right inspiration and it would be one of my dreams to get a book published some day! I write all sorts of things and still haven't been able to finish anything! I am currently writing a playscript which has every chance of being published in a book full of other playscripts from other authors like myself. It's in it's third drafting phase and I really think that I'm getting somewhere with it. I am also currently writing a novel which I have one and a half chapters of so far which I am hoping to get some helpful feedback on. In my spare time when i'm not writing novels or playscripts, I spend time with my boyfriend, friends and family which includes watching TV programmes and films which can often help give me inspiration for my writing. I also go on RP forums where I take characters from my stories and RP them to get to know them better. I think that's pretty much it... oh and I live in England, by the way! Nice meeting you and I hope this site helps me out and I get to help out others as well! travel_pillow xx
Hi there, travel_pillow! Nice to see a new face around here. I'm also writing a novel - I'm almost done with it, so I have a lot more time for reviewing. If you'd like me to take a look at the first chapter of your novel, feel free to PM it to me (click on my name, then select the 'Send PM' option in the dropdown menu). Enjoy your stay and good luck!
Hello Travel Pillow, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
