Well, I have been visiting this forum for a couple weeks and finally decided I should introduce myself. I have mostly written a lot of short stories. I have been writing two technology blogs the last few years as well. I used to despise english when I was in high school and college, but I sure wish I would have listened more now. I have grown to love writing. The last three years I have been writing many different things. Now I would like to see if I am ready to write my first novel. I am in the planning stages currently. I have a lot to learn and I enjoy reading tips from other writers. Hi everyone!
Hi WritaBurst, Welcome to the Writing Forums. What kinds of fiction do you tend to preferto read or to write? Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Thanks for the information Cogito. The fiction I normally write is super hero fiction. What category does that fall under? I have started concentrating on Christian fiction too. I work in a convent and have learned a lot about nuns.
The one superhero short story I posted here went under General Fiction. If it is based on someone else's creation is tshould go under Fan Fiction. I could also see it falling under Science Fiction, Fantasy, or Horror, depending on the specific story. Just choose whichever one seems best to you for your story.
Superhero Fiction? I love superhero fiction, though not the fan-fiction material. It's okay, but I've always had an interest in science fiction/super hero novels, but they're hard to find.
Cogito: thank you, sounds good! WhoWatchesTheWatchmen?: I'm glad to hear that! No, I don't write fan-fiction. My stories are about super heroes of my own creation.
Greetings. We've certainly got plenty to offer as a forum goes with competitions and various other aspects. Also feel free to offer a short story for the forum anthology The Captains Table On that note Welcome to the forums. ~Raven. Senior Super Moderator.
