Can people here revise my essay and give me suggestion on my writing?

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Tuexy, Sep 24, 2008.

I am a Chinese, already graduated from the university. I have intense desire to hone my English writing skills. Last year I processed the GRE and TOEFL tests, still, my writing skills are shameful. It is hard for me to find an excellent English teachers to guide me. And that is is why my GRE analytical writing mark is only 3 point while that of writing section of TOEFL is 23. Since I am hot at pursuing a PhD degree in a prestigious university of USA, the writing techniques for me is very huge. Hereby I registered as a number in this forum, having the expectation of meeting some who may be so kind to read, revise my writing passages and give some advices.

For my project, I will post a thread and give the title and copy my passage. Then maybe you could read them and give the recommendations. After I read your response, I will make a revising edition out according to your advices.

I will really appreciate your responses. Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, posting homework is not allowed.
However, after it has been turned in and graded, it is allowed- we just can't help you with an assignment prior to grading.

Hello Tuexy, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Reviewing isn't a service we offer. There is a Review Room, but it's a workshop where members work together to improve writing and reviewing skills, and you have to post constructive reviews there before you can request that others help you with your writing. In any event, members may offer suggestions, but all the actual revisions are your responsibility.

Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Essays should be posted in The Review Room -> Non-Fiction -> Essays forum. However, before you can post your own work, you must first make two substantial reviews of other peoples work, from any of The Review Room forums.
