Hey everyone! I'm so excited that I've found this forum! I've only just started really knuckling down and writing a story that I've started and put off for a couple of years now! A little bit about me...My name is Tiffany, but I prefer Tiff, I live in Western Australia. I'm 18 (almost 19) years old and I have a 2 year old son named Noah. I live with my Mum and my younger brother, so I have a lot of help and plenty of time to write! For me, writing is an outlet, I tend to think of random, illogical things and I love bringing those wacked out ideas to life on paper. I find its a great stress release, because when something really annoys me I can twist it and put it into a story. My personalised therapy - and it costs nothing! Two writers that I adore are J.K. Rowling and Stephenie Meyer! I know sounds a little bit like 'typical teenager'-ish but I don't really have a lot else to go on, as I just love fantasy, magic and romance! The way those women write make it impossible for me to put the book down! Any way I've rambled on long enough, I can see that I'm definitely going to be able to get the help I need here and I look forward to meeting a few of you! - Tiff
Hello Tiff, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Hey everyone - thanks for the warm welcome! I will definitely check out the FAQ and the Forum Rules! And I have to tell you I laughed out loud when you said "poke around the corners" Cogito, because that's the kind of person I am. I prefer to look around places where I might find something out of the ordinary...it's a little hard to explain lol =D As for my own work....I don't think it's ready for review yet lol it's kind of scattered at the moment. And I love reading other people's work to get ideas and learn from mistakes, as you suggested. Again thanks to you all for making me feel so welcome! - Tiff
