Hi Scribes! I am a short story / novel writer in the general fiction category, originally from the UK but now in Catalonia. I haven't been part of a writing group for a while, but I'm always, always writing. I joined the forum because I feel like I'm a bit stranded, maybe between the pages of a large dictionary, forgotten by the English speaking world in a far flung corner. I've already read some great prose here (whoop!) and I'm looking forward to reading more. And, when the time comes (sharp intake of breath), maybe sharing something too. Warm wishes from Spain, Odette
My father - who is Puerto Rican and should certainly know better - has conflated Catalonia with Caledonia and is convinced they are one and the same. Perhaps in a universe where differing places can overlap and cross one another, like the veil that opens ever so briefly and only for the chosen few in and around Glastonbury Tor. Welcome to the forum. You'll find a little bit of everything here, though we tend to be a short stories and novels oriented citizenry.
Well, here in Caledonia we do feel quite an affinity for Catalonia! So double welcome from a transplanted Yank moderator, who has lived in Caledonia since 1986, and plans never to leave. I did a welcome in my Conversation with you earlier today, so I won't repeat the links again. But I do hope you really enjoy getting settled in here, and if you have any problems, don't hesitate to contact me and I'll try to help. Enjoy! Oh, and you might want to visit our contest section. We encourage new members to check this out. Not only can you enter the contests AS a new member, if you want, and can certainly read and vote in the latest contests, but the entries will give you a good idea of what our membership is capable of. It's a good place to start. https://www.writingforums.org/writing-contests/ Cheers for now, and see you around the threads. Jan
Hi Odette! Welcome! And now that you happen to be there, could you please say hello to Lliria. It's a small village/town/whaever near Valencia. (I hitchhiked from Finland to there and back when I was young. Oh, all those memories...)
With pleasure, Alan. I was lucky enough to visit the Calderona park last year which is in the same area. Beautiful country. I'd love to ho back. What sticks in your mind about Lliria? That's a long hitchhike You must have some fantastic tales from that trip... I can imagine there was a multitude of characters encountered along the way?
I'm sure I'm not the only one who can relate to that stranded feeling. Welcome. I can't wait to read your work! Ehi, amico. Il mio nonno è nato in Sicilia.
1. Old town. There was a Supermarket construction going on. Some folks. Food. Visiting some kind of bull run in some other town. (Not Pampalona but something smaller.) Aqua de Valencia. Orange farms and old, old tractors with huge loads.... And my friend playing guitar and singing this to me the night I came. 2. I would have but I can't tell them here.
