    Jesus.

No American's going to throw me in prison on the grounds of 'terrorism'. If this bill passes here, Lord knows that I'll protest against it. I hope everyone here would.

Aw, did Bush finally learn how to read a newspaper?

If this were to pass, I'm starting the second Sons of Liberty to destroy the imperial government. It'd be nice if I could get my hands on a lightsabre. :)

Spelled 'saber' the alternate way, don't know if they can sue me for writing a copyrighted word on a forum now.

Seriously man, this is beyond outrageous. This is against everything that America and indeed the West fought for in WW1, WW2, the war of independance, etc etc.

Can no one else see the analogy between what is happening in America at the moment, and the rise of the Nazis in 1930s Germany.

    The Reichstag Fire - 9/11
    Anti-Jewish laws - Anti-Terrorism laws
    Concentration camps - Guantanamo Bay

    I'm just saying...

Guys, I don't know if this is something to joke about.

Especially seeing as how it's occuring in your country.

Ah yes. In fact, quite alot of people can. Watch Naomi Wolfs video, and you'll find out that you're line of thought is the tip of the iceburg compared to the depth she's gone.

Folks, this news story isn't exactly unbiased. It makes some rather wild extrapolations. I see no reason to panic.

Are you sure this is a reliable source. The reason I ask is in the link it states a vote was taken and it was a 405 to 6 vote. I don't think Democrats would have voted yes on this, do you?

I think more of a fight would have been put up, and it would have hit the main stream media. This is the first I'm hearing of it.

I'll have to google it to find out more.

I'm yet to see someone panic.

I'm saying though, that if indeed it really is happening, I wouldn't be joking about it.

My thoughts exactly. It's all a little sketchy for me, being in another country, and that I don't have literal, real-time, in depth knowledge of american politics, but i still find that the notion is really quite worrying. The main thing that started to win me over a bit was the video that is linked on that profile. It's long (around 47 minutes) but it's good, and it's in-depth. I'll probably get the book and I'm thinking about actually researching this whole affair and other dictatorships in history, because this isn't something I want to take lightly.

But still, no one's panicking yet, Cogito.

I'll joke about it as much as I like, my freedom of speech remains in tact and I shall put it through its paces. Though, if it were to happen, the resistance I said I would put up in the previous post will not be a joke.

Actually, I think it's very laughable. Taking that "news" story seriously verges on panic in my opinion.

The sky isn't falling. Not today.

I just Googled it, and Bill 1959 is real, but not to the extent of what was written in the link. I just read the whole Bill and it clearly states it is searching for Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism as well as Ideologically Based Violence. It says nothing about going after people who oppose the Bush administration. If you were to start talking about trying to attack the government, then you would be arrested, but not for just disagreeing with the government.

If it were true, half of congress would be arrested.

Even as it stands, the bill could very well be struck down as unconstitutional.

I don't think it will though. Yes, you have the right to say what you want, but you cannot threaten to harm people. I think it will pass because it clearly states over and over that it will be searching for Violent Radicalization, Homegrown Terrorism, and Ideologically Based Violence.

The Democrats control the senate. If anything like this is passed its all thanks to the Democrats.
And the Republicans generally like blogs. The bloggers are one of their major ways to get their message out. Most Republicans think the newspapers are horribly biased against them.
