You can delete a post, but I believe it's only for a very short time after posting and I think only if no one else has replied in the thread. I deleted a post today, actually but it was ten seconds after I posted it.
Oh I've just posted pretty much the same question! Sorry! I've written my introduction in the new members thread but want to take a couple of bits out (I got cold feet about some of what I'd written) but there's no edit or delete function there, even though no-one's replied to my post. I feel pretty unnerved TBH. If I can't edit out something I've got second thoughts about then I don't think I'll be getting very involved here
There is a time limit set to how long one can edit a post, but this isn't a random feature; there's a good reason for it. Spammers are sneaky. They'll pop in, post a few innocuous posts that look nothing like spam, have no links, perfectly normal. We mods see what looks like a new member joining. Some time later is when they come back and go back to those same posts that we mods are no longer looking at because there is newer traffic and activity that reuqires attention and they edit those posts to include links and other spammy sundries.
Thanks Wreybies - much appreciated. I'll think carefully (and read the rules properly!) before I post next time
Also, once you've been around for long enough (I believe a month and 50 posts) the time limit on editing goes away. Once you graduate from 'new member' to 'member' is when it happens I believe.
Nope, being Member is not enough, I am a Member and still can't edit my posts for much long after I posted them (just checked one of them, posted 41 minutes ago, still the last one in the thread, and the Edit link is gone). I think you need to be Senior Member, which requires some 250 posts and 50 likes like @Asune says.
To clarify - you can't completely delete a post or thread, it's not allowed for non-moderators. You can edit posts though, so if necessary, you can "delete" it that way.
