Oh that's cool. I feel like I must write far too much. I was 4-5 chapters into my last (and only serious but now shelved) WiP, and I was at 15,500 words :| I think I may set a target of something like, 100,000 of a novel by the end of the year... as a minimum. Just so that I have something done that I can feel proud of, even if I have no intention of sending it to anyone.
My primary goal for this year is to finish and publish a story that currently sits at ~23 k words. I don't know how long it will end up being, but by the look of things it will land in novel territory. I will almost certainly go with self-publishing, since the short stories that were reworked into the prologue and first chapter are already posted online, and I'm mostly doing it for fun and as a learning experience. It will be my longest finished story by far. Very exciting, and terribly fun to write.
My goals for 2018 is to finish two novels, a steampunk adventure and a fantasy adventure. They're both about 80-90K each and need a few rounds of final editing each, but I think I can manage that this year. Then I hope I'm brave enough to submit them to publishing houses. We don't have Amazon where I live, so I haven't even looked into self-publishing. I think I'll have to pester the publishing houses for a bit and see how many rejection letters I can collect.
Yeah, can you believe it? I've heard for a number of years that "Oh, it's coming this year," but it hasn't happened yet. The closest we have is the Danish Amazon. Maybe this time the rumours are true though and Sweden will finally get it. Fingers crossed!
One of my goals for 2018 is to get my current MS through the beta process and submitted for publication. I also want to get a good bit accomplished on the sequel to my first book. My first short story will be published as part of an anthology in 2018 sometime, so I'm really looking that as well.
I think there was a similar thread a while back that I posted on, but I'll post my goals on here as well 1. To finish the first draft of my WIP and start editing 2. To overall just improve my writing (especially my poetry)
Best of luck with it. Is it a novel you've currently got underway, or are you starting fresh? What do you mean by MS? (sorry, I'm a bit new to writing acronyms!), is it manuscript? Sorry, forgot to search for other/similar threads before posting this, call it the back to work blues How far through your current WiP are you? For myself, I'm thinking of setting some kind of word count I want to achieve in total, like, 100,000 words by the end of the year, on a project I want to write just for me, ignoring any possibility of publishing etc. The issue is, my mind is currently like a blank slate.... very blank indeed!
Have at least two novels in my new series, Monsters, Maces and Magic published in 2018, and the third novel in my Crax War Chronicles completed and possibly published before 2018 fades and 2019 begins.
No writing goals for me in 2018. Too many work problems invading my mental real estate, so by focusing on that I'm trying to rope-a-dope myself into writing better by not thinking about it. So far so good.
That's a good idea. I feel quite similarly, and can't write when distracted by other problems in any case. I don't want further pressure by setting myself writing goals.
Not very It's a novella (not quite sure how long it'll actually end up being) and I'm about 3 chapters in
Finish my sequel before the end of the year, epubb, and confuse everyone who hasn't read the first book. Then move on to something different, and less violent.
I just want to finish my WIP and get some feedback on it if possible. Anything else I do with it is just icing on the cake.
Some great goals people have... make my 'write 50,000-100,000 words' seem quite small ha. Each to their own though! I may also take the follow up 'Develop your creative writing' course that follows up the one I took last January for 10 weeks... I found it really helped motivate and focus me
Well, I've got three novelettes to find homes for. Two may not be that hard. The other kinda fits the character oriented focus of the pro-rate magazines, so I'll take a stab at those and hope for the best. Writing a few short stories and getting them published is a secondary goal. With a little luck, I'll hit ten (total) published stories by the end of this year. The big one for 2018 is trying to finish a novel. I need to do worldbuilding and planning before I get into the actual writing though, so this might cut it close.
2017 was an interesting year for me regarding writing. I've been very on-and-off, especially since 2016 and the first half of 2017 were very much consumed with music writing. But in the second half of 2017 I actually started a new novel MS and got about 13k into it (I believe, haven't worked on it in about a month). So one goal is to finish the first draft of that. I typically shoot for 90k, so it should be doable as long as I keep to it. The other weird thing is that 2017 was my most prolific year for short stories, ever. I don't do anything with them besides enter the contests here, but it was kinda cool to focus on them for a while even if they did ultimately distract from my MS. If a contest prompt strikes my fancy I'll give it a go, otherwise I'd like to try focusing on the MS. Doubt I'll be doing any open-prompt ones this time. Of course, all my other hobbies will be vying for equal time, and boy do I love piling on new, unrelated projects in other media. Hey, wouldn't it be cool to get back into RPG Maker and make a game? And a new album? And try drawing again? Hey, brain...fuck off.
self publish Honest intent (novella) and Darkest Storm (novel) Write the next in the series Cold Fury, and start work on my battle of britain novel which needs to go to editing at the start of 2019 (because I want to self pub it to coincide with the BoB aniversary) Also get my non fiction project off the ground and write and publish book 1 In order to achieve all of the above spend less time on forums and personal social media and more writing
I just want to finish up the one I am working on. I'm a prolific writer.... when I can sit down and actually write, which is only on the weekends for the most part. I hope to change that in 2018. Also, one of my secondary characters in my WIP really started to intrigue me, so I hope to start his story in a few weeks.
To successfully pitch Bury the Past, my police procedural that I hope will be the first of a series, and complete the first draft of the second book in the series.
