In my story, I have an encumberent leader who seeks re-election. He describling an aweful battle between a nefarious race of creatures and the people of his land to the crowd. He is explaining why he should be leader again. To make sure, he is the leader. He would slander the other candiate. And the candiate have sway the crowd to win the election. I have no idea how to make it work. Thank you for any help or suggests. Cbarker11
Well, we certainly cannot write the speech for you. We've no idea of the particulars, so it's no use on that front. What you need to do is think about what you yourself would say were you the incumbent and the speech was yours to give to the crowd. What would you say?
First you have to convince the reader there is such a thing as a wonderful politician. Good luck. (P.S. - I think the word you are looking for is "incumbent")
I'm no help - I like the speech from the Simpsons - Kodos: My fellow Americans. As a young boy, I dreamed of being a baseball. But tonight I say, we must move forward, not backward, upward not forward, and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom.
How would such a person be a wonderful politician if he resorts to slander? As @Cogito said, you have to convince the reader such a person exists and you've already failed to convince me.
Watch the movie "The Campaign", with Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis. It's very funny, and it's pertinent to your problem.
Yow! Ninety pages of abstract philosophy? That'll win 'em over fer sher ... Of course, if it were delivered by Eddie Izzard it might help!
This Incumbent leader is old. He is determined not lose this leadership to a younger generation. He has some battle experience. But his opponent has no leadership skill or battling experience. However, the opponent will win. Then the elect-leader will be murder by secondary character.
"It's a two party system. You have to vote for one of us!" Watch a few episodes of The West Wing if you want some great speeches. Sorkin has a knack for writing a good speech if not a little over dramatic.
