How to write tannoy/PA announcements in narration

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by NinetyEight, Apr 5, 2014.

Hi, first post here so be gentle. :)

I have a piece of third-person narrative I am trying to write down in my book that contains a tannoy announcement at a railway station. How would you write it? - In quotes or italics?
I can't seem to find a definitive answer to this one.

    Thanks for any help.

If it isn't too long, I might be tempted to write it in all caps. Otherwise, italics. (Learned a new word today - 'tannoy'.)

i don't see how or why you would be including an announcement in 'narrative' since it's dialog...

in narrative, you would only be able to paraphrase the annoucement, such as:
otherwise, you'd be doing it as dialog, such as:
all-caps would never make it past a half-decent editor... neither would italics...

hope this helps... love and hugs, maia
