Well, howdy. I'd like to introduce myself as a new member to the forums (although I'm sure you've already guessed that). Anyway, I love reading and writing and I'm working hard to improve both how well I read and how well I write. I think that languages are beautiful and amazing things and I plan on learning as many as possible. (Computer languages included, since I plan to major in Computer Science.) Anyway, I love television and video games, and I don't believe that either rot your brain. I feel that video games get blamed for a lot when they don't deserve it. Well, I don't like talking about myself much so I think I'll cut it off here. Anyway, I hope to make a few friends here and have a lovely experience.
Howdy Dean, Welcome to the Writing Forums. I agree with you about the beauty of languages, both natural and artificial. I am not proficient in any natural languages other than English, although I know a smattering of Spanish, German, and Latin. In the area of artificial languages, I have worked with well over a dozen computer languages. It is a fascinating field. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well! As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room on this site, therefore, is a true workshop, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Hi Dean, I'm also a fan of language and languages - I have a dual honours degree in French and Lingusitics to prove it! If you have any questions for us then please don't hesitate - other than that I look forward to seeing you around the site.
