Not being on Team Jacob, I can't say that Jacob Blakley makes me think of Jacob Black. But if one was a Twi-hard, they might.

I have no idea what people in twilight are called as they are all faceless angst ridden non-entities. Where as John McClane is a very strong character who is basically the archetypal movie action hero.

Why not just use an alternative spelling of that surname - MacLean, McLaine, etc?

    I don't think that changes a thing.

I'm not sure that Queen Elizabeth's son (and my grandson) would agree!

Or, indeed, any of 11 English kings dating back to the 10th century.

So, I just noticed that my MC's name was McLane not McClane (the Die Hard character) but regardless I've changed it to Reed Landry. It took me awhile to think of something that rolled off my tongue as well but I think I found it.

I like Reed Landry. Sounds appealing. Is he related to Pamela Landry? :wtf:

Um ...the original spelling of that name, which comes from Scotland, is MacLean. I don't see any problem with using that. You could even make an issue of his Scottish background. And if you called him Reid—which is also a Scottish name—that might make it even more ethnic and less 'coppy.'

Reid MacLean would not be confused in anybody's mind with John McLane.
