I have insufficient privileges to post in the workshop?

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by mbinks89, Aug 22, 2013.

Why is this? It wasn't a problem before the site updated itself. I can't start a thread.

I'm sure it's an artifact of the update. Daniel is working diligently on working out all the kinks inherent in such a significant update and change of platform. I have moved this thread to Suggestions and Feedback where he is more likely to look for such a concern as this. ;)

I think this will be related to the fact that almost everyone is labelled "New Member" now.

Maybe (that's just a wild guess, though) we'll have to wait for two weeks from the upgrade and give two critiques again? :)

Yeah, I just checked. I can't post to the workshops either.

I would suggest this is a fairly huge problem for the forum—I don't mean ME not posting :), I mean if NOBODY can post anything for critique. I would hope it gets sorted very soon ...otherwise members are likely to drift away.

I just scanned all the sub-forums in the workshop and it appears there have been no new threads since Aug 17, the day of the upgrade. Tomorrow will be two weeks, or at least by Sunday or Monday depending on when the forum opened back up. So if the 'two weeks' thing is an issue, and it makes sense as a logical explanation, it should be resolved soon. I recommend people also try to get two new critiques of others in since the upgrade as well. There were other things that were lost such as remembering where in a thread you had last visited unless it was after the upgrade.

I believe the Writing Workshop situation has been fixed - though it's hard for me to tell from an administrator account. If someone could confirm that'd be great. :D

It is not quite fixed for me. Although it appears I could start a new thread, it says I have 2 more posts to go. I've reviewed more than 2 pieces since I last posted anything for review -- under the old system, I could at this point, post anything I wished to for review. Now I cannot.

The system's basically been reset. If you post two new reviews I believe it should work, but reviews from before the upgrade won't count, and reviews from before my last post in this thread might not count. I'm sorry about that, there's not really much I can do though. If you've made two new reviews since then and it's still not working get back to me and I'll investigate further.

Ok. I don't post much in the workshop, anyway. So it's not a huge issue for me. It might be for others who may have been looking forward to posting and had recently met the criteria.

Also, BTW: It still shows me as a "New Member."

    That's true.

I've decided to temporarily change the threshold to one review. Right now you only need one review in order to make a thread in the Writing Workshop. I'll let this run for a few days then switch back to the two review requirement.

Is it set at 2 posts per sub-forum? That seems to be the verbiage and I've made two test posts to be able to report to you if it's working and it seems not... :/ Is it an overnight update kind of deal?

It should be applied to any threads in the Writing Workshop, so you should be able to post in any workshop forum/subforum and it'll count towards the quota.

I just fixed the system though, so previous review attempts probably won't count towards the criteria.

I might've spoke to soon as it appears most people still couldn't post in the workshop. I've made some more permission changes and unless you're a new member (less than 14 days registered, less than 20 posts, or you haven't posted since yesterday - possibly) you should be able to create threads and leave reviews in the workshop.

You should see a new thread button, which will redirect you to a message telling you how many critiques you need to leave to post your own thread.

If you're still having problems with this please let me know in this thread.

I'm getting this message when I click on new thread:
The last critique I gave was Thursday so I tried it in horror where the critique was as well as in novels and got the same block. I haven't added a new critique yet, when I do I'll let you know if someone else hasn't commented.

The block is still present @Daniel. I did a test post in the Western section of the Short Stories and it still blocks me. I've left the test post there in case it's an overnight update kind of deal. I'll check again tomorrow.

Alright everyone, I've tested it and it's now working. The problem was related to one of the feature options in the custom code... apparently it was only counting the first post in a thread as a critique (!) instead of the first post by each person.

As of now it should be working - for real this time.
