I finished writing this novel that I'm trying my best to have...go somewhere. It's a drama/thriller. It's 49,881k words and I need a beta reader to give me their critique on it. Would someone be willing to be a beta reader for it, please?
I'm willing to give you alpha and beta feedback on your first chapter, then, if my feedback is helpful, perhaps continue with other chapters. By the way, 49,991 words is not typically considered a novel by most editors. Something beyond 80K words is the norm.
Oh? Hmm...I read from several websites and a few agents that 50,000 is considered a novel, but it's on the short side of a novel and that there are some novels that are less than 50,000 words, such as Of Mice & Men which was only 30k words and The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks, which was only 48,978k words.
50k is often considered the point where something becomes a novel (sometimes you may see 40k) but most modern novels are longer than that. It also depends on the genre. If you don't intend to pursue traditional publishing it doesn't matter, but just keep in mind some agents may reject something under 50k on word count alone. Again, it may depend on the genre. Thrillers are sometimes short but usually above 50k. Hopefully someone will correct me if this is inaccurate.
