I'll go ahead and say it now: I'm horrible with google, whatever it is, I can never phrase my questions in a way google can understand and yield me results. If I know how to phrase it in 1 word or concept I'll find my answer but most of the time I can't like now. I have a creature in my story I wish to establish the scale of by writing how large of a shadow it's wing can cast, however I can't find the proper word, I want to compare it to a military formation (as the main character is the one telling the tale and is himself a man-at-arms) However I can't find anywhere how large these formations would be. Is there a rule of thumb as to how much space each soldier would take in a marching or standing formation? Now I'd like to mention it's a medieval Europe fantasy setting so please keep that in mind, I'm assuming gear would affect that. Thanks for the help
