Well here is my thing about it since its the ice age, I thought that the people would know how to make clothing that protects them from the cold even if it was a robe, I thought since there is different factions they all have their own cultural clothing...that's why I picked a robe, and so now once again I have to fix my character. Maybe I should make a whole entire different character because this isn't the one I imagined if it has to compensate for these strange rules. Going to fix my profile in a few, when a new character strikes me.
Leaka the rules are not strange. How on earth do you expect a robe to keep you warm. Technology isn't what it is too day. The tribes of humanity have very little technology. Orlocks drive large mammoth trucks the English are the main tribe and the main tech developers. No matter what age it is the cold is cold and a robe well its fine for indoor activity. I'm not really sure why this is an issue after all its been an Ice age from the start. The thick coats can be what ever colour you like. You can even have lots of pockets. But the fact remains below freezing will kill a hman being if exposed for more than 5 minutes or less. A robe is a robe its never been able to protect from the cold. Inside the trucks and Domes wear the robe. Outside its warm thick coats. The Human race is only just surviving the elements and adapting. But we have a lot less tech in the game than we do now.
Its all right, I'll fix him, but I'm just saying a robe can keep a person warm. If made properly, he also has a cape as well. Ever watched them shows where they were a robe and then have those capes that are almost like a jacket with some fur. Supposedly that keeps them warm. But no, I'm fixing my character....my honest mistake was thinking that they at least at the idea of having snow robes. Merle 2 will be now made.
Honestly, who wears robes, anyway? Aside from coming out of the shower... By the way, what's the deal with the line through the 'I' in 'ICE'? Does that have any kind of significance, or is it just to stand out?
I'm going to start writing up the first post tonight. Circumstances permitting it should be up later today or tomorrow. Its also important that you read the first post fully because the events after will be linked.
Well we're four days from the 1st so I'll leave that decission up to you guys. And the end of the day I try to keep it fair with all games and release dates mine included. I'm just about done theres a few Villians to be named and then the first post so I giess I'll leave that too you. Once the starting post has been made feel free to begin I guess. Most games I release a few days early anyhow. Just don't skip the first starting post. You'll need to understand a few things which like I say will be linked. Love that Sig Teele
So how does this work? Do we take turns, or just post whenever we want, or what? Oh yeah, and not to sound whiny, but do you think we could all decide on a single way of writing? Some people are using colours to denote previous dialogue, some are using 'quote' tags. Some people are even writing in the first person...
To question #1: yes. That is...don't flood the string with your responses or carry a conversation on with someone for pages. We more or less take turns. Loosely. To question #2: Probably not. It's a game. Just enjoy. Question of my own: Raven, what happens if we lose a player who is an Orlock...are they NPC'd? And if our Orlock is killed then what do we do?
Hmm, at least if we're writing in first-person, we should try to do what Foxee did and put the name of the speaker in the subject line or something. Am I the only one having a hard time keeping track of who everybody is and what role they're fulfilling? Someone's even writing in the present tense...
It always starts out that way, Emerald. Once we get rolling, and we have a few (thousand) posts on the board, you'll get a bit of a better idea of who eveyrone is.
It's just something you're going to have to get used to, really. Raven didn't put any standards on what voice we had to use, so some people just go with what they're most comfortable with. It's really not a big deal. Like i said, you'll get used to it.
Thing is, this isn't a novel even though we're writing in that style. Yes, in a cohesive story we should not have tense switches. Then again, we should also not have constant POV switching, either. So, you kind of have to accept that this is also a game rather than a collaborated novel. I've been a GM before and I can tell you, the GM has a lot more to do than checking everyone's tense or anything like that. You have to realize that once a page is behind us, it's behind us. We're not headed for publication here. As for keeping track, what might help to begin with is to print out everyone's profiles as a guide. I do this sometimes at the beginning of a game (and especially if I'm GM'ing) so that I always know what someone looks like. It helps initially when the characters don't know each other well because you can describe others strongly enough that they recognize themselves and respond. And eventually you'll know who everyone is and it'll get easier. Hang in there!
As for your writing style well thats up to you. I write in third Person because i find it easier. But I'm not opposed to players writing in first person. After all the game on your part is kind of done in your point of view how you choose to write is pretty much up to you.
Sorry, I can be a little OC about things like that. Still, I've been in a lot of RPs, on a bunch of different sites, and I've never seen one where the RPers wrote in different tenses before And most of 'em didn't take a thousand posts just to figure out the characters...
If we lose an orlock the Roughneck is next in line to drive though they are not as skilled as the orlocks. However should a none Roughneck or Orlock have to Drive thats ok but they will not be as skilled at handling the large mammoth trucks and more than probably jackknife them. The orlocks are skilled drivers of these large mammoth trucks which is the main reason they are the drivers. But should we lose one then its next in line to the wheel. Hope that helps.
At the moment the only members you need to be really concentrating on are those that are in your group since your starting off with them. As the game prgresses you'll get more familiar with the other players as well.
I wouldn't say it was a thousand posts. LOL!!! The way I look at writing style is its what makes you most comfortable third person or first. then use that style as best suites you.
