Hello B. Rice, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Funny you should ask... To begin with, posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Thank you for all the info. I have been reading other stories and find them amusing. I've taken three English classes with grammar, creative writing skills, etc. Some of the smallest mistakes are made that I have caught on to. But as I say no one is perfect. Do have one question though... How would I find an editor?
Thank you for the welcome. Lovely picture. Too bad you aren't really Jack from Lost. It happens to be my favorite show. A bit confusing with all the rewind and fast forward, but I keep up pretty well. If you have any advice pertaining to action and adventure I have an open mind. I've started writing my first peice yesterday and it's getting exciting. I hope to be contacting an editor when I have completed the manuscript. With it being my first I have not decided whether it should be a short story or just continue into a novella.
Its also my favorite show, character and actor. (I will be replacing that picture with another version of him soon...) Yay! I know have somebody to report to... because unfortunately I don't have an open mind (I do, but its not very strong). I hope to review your story/novella soon!
How long have you been writing? I started 2 years ago with short stories in my English classes. I seemed to get a type of writer's block when I attended my final class last summer and Thank God I got all my creative thinking and strategy back these past few months. Good Luck on your writing. I would be happy to review what you have and give you some advice.
Thank you and Welcome to the site. This is my 3rd day on it and I find the stories intriguing. I am half way finished with my story and will be posting it after a few things are registered. Good Luck with your writing.
