Hello folks, My name here maybe 'Buddy Gorgeous', but my real nickname is "Smiler" (you don't really need the brains of Stephen Hawking to understand why with that one) and this is my first time on a Writer's forum. I started reading when i was a wee lad of 12 and have loved reading and writing ever since. I normally chew through 2-3 books a week, Im an Amateur Boxer and planning on entering the Armed Forces again. Im here to meet others and make some new pedegree-chum's who have the same joy of reading and writing as i do and receive Helpful advice and crticism. It's great to meet you, take care and all the best my friends. Buddy G.
Hey! Welcome, as you know I'm new aswell are you from Scotland? (just wondering as you said 'i was a wee lad of 12') Jay xx
Hi. Welcome to the site, it seems that only new members are posting here, but apparently there has been a lot of them. Yay for us new people. and obviously yay for the old people too. 2-3 books a week, wow! I love to read, but im kind of slow at it.
I like to read fantasy, but im currently reading biographies and autobiographies of children or people who have known children, who have been abused. I wouldnt have thought to have read these books if it wasnt for being recommended to give them a go and they're really inspiring. What about you, what do you like to read? Nothing wrong with taking your time to enjoy what the tree has got to say, but im too impatient, if i'm reading a good book it takes a lot to drag me away from it. Sadly i have never had a long book to read, i set myself a challenge to read a book of over 1000 pages in less than 3 months. But i've never found one. ^^
Cool!! Are you in to 'Lord of the Rings' type of fantasy or 'Harry Potter' type stuff (don't worry, it's not a trap to poke fun of you if you're a Potter fan ). When i did a little stint in the Army last year we would do our exercises in a section of woodland in North Yorkshire named 'Gandale' woods. Naturally, we kept calling it 'Gandalf' so we stuck to the new name. Join the Army, be a Hobbit... i can see the TV adverts now haha. Wow, a friend of mine is reading a book at the moment, 'A boy called IT' which is about the young lad's experince with abuse ect... not for happy reading but as you said, it can be inspiring stuff. Is, what you are currently reading, good? who recommends them to you? I like to read a bit of everything to be honest, i'd read Clive Barker's 'Weaveworld' one week and read a crime book the next, so it's very varied. I like biographies too! haven't long finished one about Ed Bunker, a real life criminal who starred in Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs as Mr.Blue. Really cool guy! could pick his brains for a good hour or two with a drink haha. Hehe, yeah, if my beak is firmly lodged in a book then it takes Alot to get me away from it. Friends and relatives have to tempt me away somehow... okay, it's not that bad, but it does get addictive as you say hehe. Have you read Stephen King's 'IT'???? shamed to think of it now but i was scared stiff of it as a kid because i hated the killer clown! put me off Mcdonalds for months. But when i read it for the first time, it was the fastest 1000 page book i've ever had. So... do you have anything posted up on here??? are you planning to??
I LOVE welsh accents I'm from Scotland. Born here, grew up here, plan to live here forever but I'm not even ginger *horrified face*
Welcome! In case you were wondering, I'm an American born and bred. Not as cool as Welsh, but hey. You can call me Gigi by the way.
Hello Buddy, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Heya, Lord of the Rings- i love the films, couldnt read the Hobbit but have recently finished Fellowship of the Ring, which i liked. Yes i was a Harry Potter fan, now i dont really know, i think i want something different to read. I read 'a boy called IT' and am now on his second book 'the lost boy' I've never read a Stephen King book, i scare easily, so you dont have anything to be ashamed of. Sadly i havent heard of the other books you mentioned. What are they like? The crime one sounds quite good. Lol. Havent posted anything yet, well the odd comment here and there on some great poetry! What about you?
Heya It took me just under a month to read the first Lord of the Rings book. Haha i surprise you here, im not a fan of Pulp Fiction, i actually hate the film. I have never seen Resevoir Dogs. I havent picked up Lost Boy in a few days as i have been so busy.
It's not your fault, its the darn weather! Does it not know how precious books are? Hehee. Great that you get to sneak a few minutes reading during work. I like fantasy films, my faves are Narnia, Lord of the Rings, Inkheart and i love Marvel films, was a huge fan of them as a kid and am still a fan now (big kid, ^^ thats me.) X men, Daredevil, Spiderman and Fantastic Four. (not so much Fantastic Four, but i can just about bear them) Power to LotR, keep bullying Buddy, because they are a MUST to read. Apparently. But i prefer the films. Your little story was great!
