Yes I have but the ideas I had, in my opinion, aren't suited too well for the format. Also, with some ideas I am afraid that people won't play it the way I mean them to. I think I just like to be in full control of my own worlds. Even though there is alot of diversity here in terms of rp's, certain people tend to create certain types of characters. Some of which would make good fits, others wouldn't fit at all within the setting. Now, I must emphasize that my ideas for RP's so far have been based off ideas I already had for (short) stories of my own making, I feel that if I am ever going to host a game I will have to make the world fit with the characters instead of the other way around.
in my humble exsperiance, I have learned that you really shoudn't have to worry about it , I did not make toe with any worry about the chars that would become apart of it because that is not something you can control, just create your world and work with the chars you get exsample.... Pickles does not fit toe at all! but, despite that he really worked in the story eventually, why? I worked with the chars and accsepted him as he was, the result? lots of head ackes and lot of wonderful character developing moments of gold. over all putting up with him was well worth it :I
I know, it's just that the worlds I have in mind right now are the same ones that I (trying to) write a novel in/about. What I fear is book-movie effect. You know, when you read a book you can imagine the characters, the world etc. When you watch the movie of that book you lose your own imagination of how the characters and world looked. At least I do. Everytime you then re-read the book you are seeing the movie actors, not what you imagined them to look like. In turn, I fear that if I use a certain world as a setting I might no longer be able to imagine that world without certain events or characters that happen because of the rp. The solution is simple, i'll just have to come up with a unique world specifically engineered with an RP in mind.
or you can have another version of that world designed for rp's you may not realize this but the toe you know and the toe in my own novle are very diffrent. exsamole Toe in my head does not have these chars Tess vayla all the chars made by toe players Toren Sol Knob Farren cadel Haze Pyria indeed you could say there are two versions of toe, the one you know, with all these chars and the one in my head, their pretty diffrent.
My fear is that I won't be able to keep the "singleplayer" world completely seperate from the "multiplayer" one. It could be a good thing to have the rp affect the novel but could isn't convinving enough for me. I think I will create an RP someday (maybe in the oncoming vacation) but first I am going to enjoy the ones that are already up.
Sort of the reverse effect for me. I gained more characters to add to my writing. Like Dexter and Pickles
Ugh. Well I've been stranded in a parking lot for the past hour and a half because my parent's car battery went out. And then my Grandpa took awhile to get there to jump our car. At least I'm home now...hey y'all!
@Jess, that's never fun :/ Glad you got home safe! @Mac, I know exactly what you mean. I made this game with the specific intention of it being an RP, and it's working out great. But the other game I tried to make was a story I had come up with before, and I had a really hard time with how it was progressing as an RP, just because it had been a story first. So, I know what you mean. Also, just as a general announcement, just kinda putting this out there... I have decided that I enjoy the consumption of a good stout ale... That is all.
Well, in your pre emptive defense, alcohol does spark creativity. Great writers, poets and musicians didnt shy away from a bit of beverage.
Lol I don't know why. But when you said that it made me think of You, Phoenix, Exzalia, Me and a few others in a basement all sitting in chair circle with a bunch of weed smoke in the air and really dopey smiles on our face just saying the craziest ideas.
@Phonenix: Still not as awesome as Pete's Couch Which is a teleporter and Pete has weed which gets you high for 11 hours.
My Friends, I have finally made it back to my powered-up laptop! Really sorry I've been so dead, but travel and lack of power chord/charged battery are a terrible combination. Glad to see things are still moving, and sorry I've held people up. However, my return brings sad news. My search for a summer job has been successful, and the job is teaching boy scouts their small boat sailing merit badge for the next seven weeks. Living at a camp, thus, means I will have neither my laptop nor the time to compose worth-reading posts. It is with regret that I must therefore resign from this RP, and pass the control of House Jarn back to whomever wants/needs it at the time. Obviously this will complicate the "meetings" we had arranged, so I'm PM'ing Pheonix to work out logistics here. I joined up with this RP because I had a great time with the original Surmarack, and I told myself I wouldn't drift away and let this one die. But now I'm being dragged away. Off I go into that good-night, but I wish you all the best of RP and hope Surmarack reaches its full potential this time. May your grammar be fluent, your spelling accurate, and your metaphors well understood.
awww. sorry you have to go Cyn *huggles*. Well, at least you will be in for a great read when you get back!
Don't fret, I think it is really cool that you are helping out the boy scouts. I used to be in the boy scouts, so I can relate. I must admit that I did eventually leave because it took up more time than I could afford but I think I stayed for about 3 or 4 years. I still remember hating going to camps, I used to get really homesick, especially the first time, I think I was twelve or something. But that all settled after a few days, in retrospect, I think I overcame that homesickness because of the boy scouts, so there is a good thing! The best of luck with the camp, and enjoy it!! One piece of advice for camping in general (I have no idea how experienced you are in that area so forgive me if I am saying something that sounds very obvios to you): take loads of plastic bags with you. You can put laundry in them, you can take them with you on hikes to sit on if it has been raining, there are all kinds of usages for it! Aside from a towel, plastic bags are very nice to have
@Cynglen, I am sad to see you go... But I hope that everything goes well for you! You and your amazing writing shall certainly be missed. This however opens up a job position in the game. Jarn is an important house that needs someone to take care of it. I would, but I already have a lot to take care of. Anyone willing to step up and take over the house?
