mesothelioma from asbestos, assuming character isn't a smoker. silicosis also occurs in people who work with drywall, masonry, cement. perhaps mold infections from breathing in airborne spores.
Emphysema - COPD - chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; Causes can be smoking, mining damage (coal dust) etc., lung cancer. Didn't a web search turn anything up? Tons of material for browsing on health, welfare, and clinical sites.
