    In search of a sickness...

Discussion in 'Research' started by Lizor, Jun 26, 2015.

I am in search of a sickness for my character.
    • It has to involve coughing.
    • It has to be chronic or at least long lasting.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thank you very much!

mesothelioma from asbestos, assuming character isn't a smoker. silicosis also occurs in people who work with drywall, masonry, cement. perhaps mold infections from breathing in airborne spores.

    Emphysema - COPD - chronic obstructive pulmonary disease;
Causes can be smoking, mining damage (coal dust) etc.,
    lung cancer.

Didn't a web search turn anything up? Tons of material for browsing on health, welfare, and clinical sites.

I'm not really a doctor, but I hear there's a kid in Kentucky whose talents are just waiting to be discovered.

It did, but it got me so many results that I had no idea where to start, but having a few names from you, I can search specifically. Thank you very much!

If you've got some character background, someone here with medical experience may have an interesting condition for you.

    Is it a young non-smoker?

    How about

Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (will come with liver problems as well)
    Cystic fibrosis
    Goodpasture syndrome
    Sarcoidosis (African American females especially)
    Granulomatosis with polyangiitis
    Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis
    Hypersensitivity pneumonitis
    Tuberculosis

Recurring Pneumonia is pretty common side-effect to a decent amount of auto-immune diseases.
