My character is a famous inventor and adventurer. He invents jetpacks, flying cars, hover boards, and travels the world looking for new adventures. He helps the planet, loves nature, and is a good man. He will transition into politics later in the story, so his name should be fairly classy. I would like his first name to be James, but I can't think of a good last name. James Madix James Jetson James ?????? I don't like Madix because it sounds kind of negative. "Mad Madix" comes to mind, but he's not crazy! He's not the stereotypical type of inventor with the crazy hair. He's more like Indiana Jones meets Nikola Tesla or perhaps Richard Branson of the Virgin brand. Thanks in advance! -GL
Well, don't go for a gimmicky name. Just go for one that speaks for itself. Most famous scientist people don't really have complicated names, with the only exception of Tesla. Which probably isn't that weird in Europe. Hm...hm... James Tanaka James Madison James Geralds James Franklin James Adams James Bordeau James Wichita James Axl Foster ....huh.
A buddy and I were tossing around names for characters, and we never actually used them. We got giddy one afternoon repeating "John AusVenner" and "Bill Brunhill" until the names no longer made sense. Have at 'em.
Most of us got our names before we became famous, or even knew what our interests are. Just throw a phone book across the room, and pick a random name from the page it opens to.
One of the things writers like to do is use a name that is indicative of the character's function or personality. Such as Mr. Hyde (who 'hides' with in Dr. Jekyll) and George Stark (because he's in 'stark' contrast to Thad Beaumont).
I like the vibe of Wright, but it should be unique. I like the science sounding names too. Eg. Papa Neutrino. That's a real person by the way. It seems like last names that start with 'M' and 'J' sound nice because they work with 'James'. I'm open to suggestions though! Thanks and keep 'em coming!
Firstly, there's a pretty important question that no one has asked: what's his ethnic/cultural background? Coz it would be kinda weird to have someone of Italian or Persian descent called James Smith. Maybe mix it up a bit and have him as a second or third generation immigrant with an American sounding first name and ethnic surname: James Schroeder James Theodorakopoulos James Benraba James Khan (that's actually a real life entrepreneur...) James Bertorelli
I always get my name from a random name generator. Here's my personal suggestion: James Jesla or James Tones (mixture of Tesla and Jones)
