I would like everyones opinions on this topic. Would you like to have a competition like this and if so how often? I think it would be great and we could do it each month. But what do you all think?
It is a reasonable idead but I think as we already run contests this could possible have to be a weekly alternation of topic based competitions and this sort, too many competitions could leave the entries thinly spread across them thus spoiling any sense of competition. As an idea though it sounds perfectly feasible.
I guess I would agree with Gannon. The thing he is correct about is that making another competition might make it too scattered and thin. If you could variate the form of Short Story/Poetry Contest every week (e.g., theme, iron poet/writer, theme, iron poet/writer), it would somewhat lower the worry we face here. Or, we can always listen to Torana's first suggestion and make it monthly.
Ok well how about we have it the way it is at the moment, but once a month hold the iron poet and iron writer contests? Would that interest anyone?
Sounds fine - but how about coming up with our own wf.org name for such an exercise? Torana's Tripartite Party?
Or even a really cheesy one, 'Tri Hard'. You could then call each subesquent one, 'Tri Hard 2', 'Tri Hard 3' etc.
The idea has potential. It would be interesting to see what people come up with. I think monthly would be a sufficient frequency that would hopefully not impact the existing Poetry contest.
I think perhaps instead of having a different contest, once every month [or every fourth contest for short stories] we could have a special contest in which we use this idea. That way we still utilize our normal contests, but it gives things an interesting twist; to get away from our basic theme ideas that really don't exercise and experiment with our writing muscles. And I also enjoy the one player short of a quartet idea. Very clever.
Something like 'Out of the Hat' signifying both the random nature of the contest and the trifecta by alluding to a 'hat trick', which is a term referring to 3 shots made by a single player in hockey.
Now that I think about it I agree with Eoin, one month is a bit long. Maybe have it two weeks only. Or like SnipSnap said, have it for every fourth or so short story competititon. And I like the name "Hat Trick"
ok well I will sit down over the next few days and work on it. I think that having it every fourth contest would be a good idea myself just so that it doesn't make things too hard on myself that is. Sorry everyone but I am only human and have to be inconciderate at some stage of my life mah I just think that having them every fourth contest would be best really as I am going to be making these contest harder than the others. That is for sure. I will write out a list in the weekly writing groups of all the names suggested and then people can add names to that I think and we can all vote on which we would prefer to have. I really am looking forward to this. Should be a lot of fun actually.
It actually helps keep my mind off of those things Banzai so I don't mind really. This contest won't be starting up till next month anyways. So don't worry. I wouldn't suggest it if I wasn't up for the task!!
