You truely worry me Domoviye. But you are right if one is not sure of ones self then how can anyone else be sure of that person. But then maybe you are saying you are sure of yourself when you aren't really sure of yourself at all!
I never say I am sure of anything for I am always doubting anyone that is sure of being sure. So are you really sure or just saying that you are sure that you are sure?
Well I only have like 2 minutes left online anyways. So I'll stop threadjacking now. And I am very sure of that.
Domoviye you say you are sure as always but I am not so sure you are sure that you are sure. lol ok well yes that is the ned of that discussion. Back on topic now people.
Thank you for recognizing my joke. And I do agree that "Hat trick" is a very worthy name, also. Actually, does a name truly matter? But this is coming from someone who had the gall to name one of his poems "Joo-Joo Wah. Doo-Wop, Doo-Wop BOW!" So I'll slink off in the general direction of a lavatory to bathe and whatnot now ...
i'd like to know what the heck 'iron' has to do w/ anything... if it's a swipe from those 'iron man' athletic competitions, it's silly imo, since that refers to the competitors having the stamina to survive several different types of race/challenge in succession and this contest seems to bear no relevance to that name basis... an aged virgo, i know i'm showing my stick-in-the-mud nit-picking stubborn side here, but i think writers should be more precise with what words we use than 'ordinary' folk, making sure that the meaning fits the intent... it's like the inane tacking-on of '-aholic' to anything action that's habitual, even though in the adjectival [or is it adverbial?] sense, it only fits the original noun 'alcohol' and shouldn't have an 'a' in there, in any case... can't believe that nonsensity made it into any dictionary, let alone some of the most respected, such as the american heritage, when even the online etymology dictionary admits: so, anyway, what's with the 'iron' bit? love and puzzled/disgruntled hugs, maia
Ironically (heh), the "Iron Writer" name came from another writing site. and no one here appears to be even considering putting "Iron" in the name. We're just considering a contest form at to test everyone's mettle.
The name alludes to the show Iron Chef where two opposing chefs are given a special ingredient (unknown by either prior to the unveiling) and must create a number of dishes featuring said item.
Yes, but Iron Chef itself alludes to "make or break" competitions like the Iron Man Triathlon. mamma's right - Iron Writing is pretty far removed from the base metaphor.
I'm almost sorry I brought it up. Who knew y'all would take the whole name thing so seriously? We just do it for kicks, and save the philosophical debates for other things like "would a dash or a colon work better in this sentence?"
Yes I have to agree with you there RomanticRose. I do not see the point in going on about the name of it from another forum. I posted this up as I thought the idea of it would be fun for members here, not so you could all criticise the name of the contest which is the name another forum uses for it on their forum. I do not think it is appropriate criticising them for that or the name. None of you would like it if it was to yourselves!! I apologise to you RomanticeRose for this happening. Torana
From what I can gather, this sounds like a good, fun idea. The name things are a suggestion and to get into serious debate territory is, well, a bit like banging my head against the wall. This seems like a fantastic fun, idea. I'm sorry too Rose. I hope we can think of a great name for the comp. So I agree wholeheartedly with both RomanticRose and Torana. ~Doz
maia this comment I feel was rather rude. You are stating here that writers are above others. This is not the case. No one person is better than the next no matter what their IQ or other abilities are. I think that sometimes you should be more careful with your word usage. Torana (I apologise if this is taken offensively in any manner)
not at all, torana... i merely said that we should be more careful with the words we use, since as writers, words are our main focus... i'm afraid you're taking what i said and imparting meanings to it that are not there and certainly were not intended... as a writer i do do my best to be careful about which words i use... and nowhere did i imply that writers were smarter or better than or 'above' other people... so please be more careful in reading what i write, so it won't be misunderstood and i won't be accused of being rude when i'm merely stating my opinion politely... love and hugs, maia
